If this scene did anything well for me, it was definitely resonating with Eilise. "As the tip of the spoon grazed the roasted fowl-" As a reader, I wanted to know the taste and texture(cause I'm a glutton), to then follow with interruption after interruption, gave me a slight pang of anger. Maybe I'm hungry(and a glutton), but being able to enjoy one's food is sacred! Will keep reading 👍

A big plus for me in any piece of fiction is when the writer knows how to create a compelling father or mother character. The duke is stern, caring, and both practical and daring. All of this was presented in a conversation that boils down to: "Son, we have to weaponize the op demon girl or you will dieeeee." Thought I was out when the fist 'Nyo' escaped Solveig's lips, but nyo way i'm dropping this gem
