The serious answer is I can't really say (it's a future plot point), they do have lessons but they're not in the usual grain of academic subjects, they're more like specialised lessons
For example
Physical Education -> Kinetics Class
Then they might have memory class where they teach mnemonics, or mentality class where they teach [spoilers]. Or Aesthetics class where they teach how to abuse body language/other things to look more attractive in a conventional gender role sense cause Singapore is kinda backwards in this aspect. They're still not forced to attend if they don't want to, but students who don't go for the lessons will be at a disadvantage... and that disadvantage, as we'll find out later in the story, could be extremely threatening. Hope that explains some things.
