Chapter 662:
Beyond The Stars
Author's Comment: At least for now, I've gone back to more script-like dialogue. It just fits the story more and is more consistent with the rest of the pre-639 story. I don't really care if it's not that popular and if you made it this far into the story, you probably didn't mind the script-like writing anyway.
Chapter 677: Ronzic Fills Out His Staff Part 3 – Head Technician – Tuck
Narrator: Ronzic meets with Laura and Biff in his personal room soon after hiring Soga.
Ronzic: (With a questioning tone) “Something I have considered is that I need someone who is an expert when it comes to technology. I need someone who is extremely reliable.”
Laura: (With a reassuring tone) “As we have done before, I will pass out the flyers.”
***
Narrator: Later that day.
Tuck comes across a flyer posted on a wall in a town that he is walking through. He examines the flyer. The writing on the flyer says, “WANTED – Lord Ronzic, the savior of dark beings, is looking for an expert technician to become his Head Technician. If you are interested, please come to Lord Ronzic’s base.”
Tuck puts his right hand up to his chin.
Tuck: (Speaking to himself) “That definitely applies to me. With my magic, I’m likely the best technician on this planet. I need something to elevate me in this post-war world.”
***
Narrator: The next day, in Ronzic’s personal room.
Ronzic looks over at Laura who is standing by the door.
Ronzic: “You may let in the next candidate.”
Laura nods.
Laura: “Understood.”
Laura opens the door and heads into the hallway where Tuck is sitting next in line.
Laura: “You may come in now.”
Tuck stands up and begins following Laura into Ronzic’s room.
Ronzic looks at Tuck with a curious and welcoming expression.
Ronzic: “Please sit in the chair across from me.”
Feeling some nerves, Tuck walks over to the chair across from Ronzic and sits down.
Ronzic: “Let’s begin, shall we.”
Tuck puts his hands on his lap and slightly digs his fingers into his thighs due to nerves.
Ronzic: “Tell me why I should hire you for this position.”
Tuck hesitates for a moment but soon begins to speak.
Tuck: (With a calm but slightly nervous tone) “There is no better magic one could have to be the Head Technician than mine.”
Ronzic leans forward looking at Tuck with intrigue.
Ronzic: “Tell me about your magic.”
Tuck: (Speaking with more confidence) “Yes, of course. I have Wire Magic. My wires allow me to attach to anything and can easily power and operate anything they touch. If something is complicated, connecting my wires to it will allow me to much more easily understand it. All of that is in addition to my interest in technology.”
Ronzic: “Have you done anything with your interest in technology?”
Tuck: (Speaking proudly) “During the conflict against the light beings, it was my magic that set up all of our defenses in the town that I lived in.”
Ronzic leans forward, focusing his gaze straight into Tuck’s eyes.
Ronzic: (Speaking curiously) “Can your wires work independently of you?”
Tuck’s confidence begins to decrease as he starts to sweat a little bit.
Tuck: (Speaking calmly but with a hint of nervousness) “No, that can’t be done… However, I was able to strategically be wherever I was needed at any given time to make use of my wires for traps that I specifically designed for use in ambushes.”
Ronzic sits back with interest and puts his hands together.
Ronzic: “So you not only are capable of operating equipment but also creating your own new tech inventions?”
Tuck: “That is correct.”
Ronzic smiles, revealing how pleased he is to hear that.
Ronzic: “Yes, good. Very good. I’d even say that is extremely good.”
Tuck: (With calming nerves) “I’m glad to hear you say that, sir. So… do I get the position?”
Ronzic: “I would like to see your capabilities for myself first. See that computer over on that desk? It has stopped functioning. I’d like to see you get it to work again.”
Tuck stands up and looks over at the computer.
Tuck: (Speaking confidently) “That is no problem for me.”
Tuck points all five fingers of his right hand forward, aiming at the computer.
Tuck: “Behold!”
Wires shoot out from every fingertip and attach to the computer. Tuck releases his magic through the wires that then go into the computer they have attached to. In only a few seconds, the computer screen turns on and begins the boot-up process. Ronzic watches intently as the computer goes through the boot-up process. After only a few minutes, the computer finishes booting up and reaches the sign-in screen.
Tuck: “Voila! I have repaired the computer and now it works fine again.”
Ronzic smiles and nods.
Ronzic: “Excellent! You are exactly who I am looking for. You see, this position is arguably the most important hire that I will make.”
Tuck: (Speaking respectfully) “Why is that?”
Ronzic: “We need to make a ship capable of traveling fully through space. We will leave this barren planet. I call this plan… Project Sputnik!”
Tuck: (Speaking with both curiosity and excitement) “That sounds interesting. I would need a lot of materials to make an entire ship capable of full space travel. Given the state of this planet, that won’t be easy.”
Ronzic: “You are correct. This will certainly be a long-term project. That’s why we have enslaved the light trash and will put them to work. They will help us leave this planet and then they will be left here to rot with what is left of it.”
***
Narrator: Back to the current battle between Dusk and Tuck.
Tuck: (Speaking triumphantly) “I now have you completely under my control. With my magic pumping into your head, you have no free will. Now, to punish you for your heresy, I will have you take your own life.”
Tuck’s magic flows into Dusk’s head through the wires, causing Dusk’s hand to turn and point at his own chest.
Tuck: “Now, begone!”
Dusk’s hand shakes as Tuck tries to make him pierce his own chest. However, his hand shakes but won’t move any closer to his chest.
Tuck raises an eyebrow.
Tuck: “He’s able to resist?”
***
In a dark area filled with empty small stone buildings, Dusk stands and finally snaps out of a trance.
Dusk: (Speaking in a confused tone) “Where am I? Wasn’t I just fighting the wire guy?”
Coming from above, a wire shoots down at Dusk. He barely jumps out of the way in time to avoid it. He looks up to see Tuck floating down to the ground.
Tuck: (Speaking with slight annoyance) “So, it appears you can resist. I will have to finish you off here in your subconscious to make you take your own life.”
Narrator: Their battle moves to Dusk’s subconscious!
