Chapter 0:

Kurokiba Genji

The Seventh Sense

“Good morning everyone, it’s Sara Hasegawa and you are watching Nihon News. This morning another 10 people have been reported to have fallen into the mysterious coma, the 10 people have been brought to nearest hospital as soon as possible and-”

“Boring,” said Kurokiba Genji as he switched the channel on TV.

“So today I’m going to make something from my grandmother’s recipe book, namely blueberry pancakes. Perfect for a nice warm breakfast right? Now-”

“Too much sugar,” he said as he switched the channel again.

Kurokiba looked over his shoulder to look at the clock and saw that It’s 9 a.m.

“Well, guess I have to head out,” he said. He grabbed his gym bag and headed out. He went to the nearest calisthenics park to do his usual workout. When he’s done with his workout he goes back to his apartment, he drinks a protein shake, he eats lunch, he takes a shower and then he either reads manga or watches TV until it’s time to eat dinner and go to bed. That’s how almost every single day looks like for Kurokiba Genji.

The next morning after Kurokiba ate his breakfast, he laid down on the couch and sighed.

“Is this how I’m going to live my life? Just doing the same routine everyday? Maybe I should get a job, it’s been a year and a half since I graduated high school after all. But a job won’t change anything, it’s gonna be another boring part of my boring everyday routine. Why is everything so boring? I guess it’s because I haven’t found something that can get me excited or motivated to live my life to the fullest. I really envy the people who have clear goals to pursue or a job they really love. I guess I’m one of those people who don’t really have a purpose in life. Well, no use thinking about it now. I should head out, it’s past 9 a.m. already.”

He went out to do his workout again but on his way back he suddenly got a massive headache.

“Aah, what’s going on,” he asked himself while holding his head.

“My blood pressure is probably low. Damn, I should’ve brought a banana or something.”

Kurokiba walked towards his home when he suddenly saw a guy in a school uniform getting picked on by a couple of school thugs. He walked past them and looked back to see the guy getting picked on more clearly when he realized that it was his neighbour. He went towards him and asked:

“Hey, you’re the guy who lives next to me right?”

“Y-yeah,” said the guy.

“Who the hell are you?” asked one of the bullies.

“You need a hand with these guys?” asked Kurokiba.

“HEY, didn’t you hear me? I asked you-”

“Could you not scream in my ear, I’m having a massive headache right now and you’re not making it any better,” said Kurokiba while grabbing the guy by his jaw and pushing him with incredible force against the wall.

The other thugs started coming at Kurokiba with the intend to hit him but not a single punch or kick even as much as grazed him. Kurokiba threw them around like it was nothing. The fight ‘if you could call it a fight’ was over and Kurokiba and the guy who was getting bullied walked towards their homes together.

“By the way, I’m Kurokiba Genji. What’s your name?” asked Kurokiba.

“I’m Toshiro Aikawa, nice to meet you.”

“Does that happen a lot to you?” asked Kurokiba.

“Ow, you mean how they were picking on me? No, no, well, sometimes but they usually leave me alone when I give them my lunch money,” said Toshiro.

“Ah, so”

Kurokiba and Toshiro made it to their apartment building and were about to separate.

“Well I’ll see ya later then” said Kurokiba.

“Yeah, take care” said Toshiro and started heading towards his apartment when he intended to look back for a moment to see Kurokiba going in his apartment but saw him laying on the ground instead. He rushed over to him and started to panic.

“Genji-san, are you okay? What’s wrong?” he asked in agitation.

“Aah, I gotta call 119,” he added.

“Hello, could you please send an ambulance, my friend passed out and I don’t know what to do-”

“Aaah, what happened?”

“Where am I?”

“Huh, who are you?”
