Chapter 9:
The Quietus Cloud, The Witch Curve, and The Five - A mathematical, historical, and philosophical tale set in a world where the sun is about to end and a cloud covers the entire earth in eternal twilight
My eyes glanced at the map provided by my car, then I shifted my gaze forward. At this time, I had ended the automatic driver mode, and my hands were ready to hold the car's controls. I had entered the station to travel across the country using the Alleinbahn service.
Alleinbahn is one of the first innovations in our country's transportation system. Alleinbahn literally means "solo track." This system allows private cars to run on rail tracks like trains. Stable speeds can reach 300 kilometers per hour.
The name Alleinbahn itself is an adaptation of the name of one of our old transportation systems, called the autobahn. For your information, the autobahn is a network of toll roads or expressways that are coordinated nationally. Most of the lanes on the autobahn do not have a speed limit, although on some lanes there is a recommended speed limit of a maximum of 130 kilometers per hour.
Currently, the autobahn still exists along with the alleinbahn. Both have different things to offer to transportation users. Some of the advantages of the autobahn today are more open access for more types of cars and free access.
Meanwhile, the Alleinbahn service, in addition to offering high speed, also provides other added value for users. After arriving at their destination, users can exit the alleebahn and enter the regular road again with their car. No need to pay separately for passenger tickets and car delivery tickets by high-speed train.
I think the airline will still have an attractive bargaining power even though flying cars are allowed to be used by the public. Or will there be an Alleinbahn for the flying car version? That might happen.
Not all cars have the specifications to be able to use the Alleeinbahn service. Of course, the safety aspect must be considered when the car is moving at high speed on the rails, and not all cars' materials and designs meet the requirements for this. Because my car is a high-end car, there is no obstacle for me to use the Alleinbahn. The expensive ticket price is also not a problem for me with my salary from the Five.
Of course, I don't always use the Alleinbahn service when traveling long distances. I know it’s not good to waste money without a good reason—I have to save money too, right? So it depends on the situation, and of course, this is the situation where I have to use it.
I have been called by the Bavarian state police to provide all the information I know regarding the death of Mr. Warm. The police said that in this case, it is ‘highly recommended’—which means that it is not written down in a formal letter, but it is mandatory—that I meet them in person. If I don’t come, the police will probably send another invitation, and if I don’t come again, they will ‘pick me up.’ Of course, I immediately agreed, and that’s why I used the Solo Track.
From my house to the Bavarian state police headquarters, the distance is about 240 kilometers. If I used the regular road, it would probably take me about 3 hours to get there. But with the Alleinbahn, it only took me about 1 hour.
Es ist nichts so fein gesponnen, es kommt doch an die Sonne. Eventually, there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed. I hope my testimony will make that proverb come true.

I just got out of the station bathroom. I chose this because when my car entered the Alleinbahn tracks, of course, I couldn't go to the bathroom. It was possible that when I was already on the tracks, I would choose to stop at the nearest available rest area, but that would be subject to a fairly high additional fee.
The additional fee also made me head to the convenience store inside the station. At the shopping center, I bought two bottles of water and some bread. It was certain that the price of the items I bought would increase sharply if I bought them at the rest area.
Then I returned to my car. It didn't take long to get my car into the building provided for the Alleinbahn service. I saw that there seemed to be several other cars using this system. This is not a strange thing, because this is still a holiday period, so many people are traveling. In addition to those going to tourist attractions or visiting family or friends, some fulfilled their fernweh—a longing for far-away places—desires.
I have parked my car in a box provided. The Alleinbahn system immediately detects the presence of my car and greets me [Welcome to Alleinbahn]. The system then tells me what I have to do—and what the system is doing.
From the Alleinbahn application that has been installed on my gadget, there is another confirmation of the location of my destination. After checking all the lists, several tools appear on the wall of the box. The equipment functions to scan the current condition of my car.
Without waiting long, a notification appears that the inspection has been completed and there are no problems to worry about. The last sentence that appears from the Alleinbahn system is [Enjoy your trip with Alleinbahn; may your trip be pleasant].
The box takes my car to the right position and attaches my car to the Alleinbahn rail. From the delivery rail, my car heads to the main Alleinbahn rail. Then, the super-high-speed journey begins immediately.
A few seconds after my car runs on the Alleimbahn rail, I drink a few sips of water. Next, I reopened my gadget. I opened an online video-sharing platform and found that there was a livestream being watched by quite a lot of people.
The livestream was a live broadcast of the Fates podcast, this time with the theme of Mr. Warm's death. It seemed that they had been live for about thirty minutes.
In addition to being active in real life, the Fates are no less active online. Their content is very diverse; for example, they have sports tournaments between their members, art performances, and street actions that they do. There are also regular podcasts that review various things from the Quietus Cloud, sports, politics, economics, and others.
Not only in terms of quantity, the quality of the Fates' content production also seems not cheap. Of course, because if their content looks careless, their donors, including the Felsenmann family, wouldn't like it. But of course, the good quality of their works is not only because they have enough money. Geld allein ist nicht alles—money alone isn't everything. Although it is not visible, it seems like you can feel how the Fates staff are so passionate about producing their creations.
I think their passion and enthusiasm are the same as us members of the Five when we do our research. This is also reflected in their live streaming video this time. In the video, three speakers are seen. The three of them are sitting in front of a wall that has their sect's symbol attached.
The definition of the Die Schicksale symbol is as follows: A horizontal ellipse with sharp left and right ends. A simple wheelchair silhouette is in the upper center of the horizontal ellipse. A curved rail that is above the upper curve of the ellipse. The three objects look like an eye with eyebrows, so the Fates symbol has the nickname 'Eye of the Fates' Wheelchair Rail or 'Eye of the Fates.'
"Listen, this is not schadenfreude," one of the three speakers was heard arguing when I randomly pressed the video's progress bar at the beginning.
The schadenfreude that the speaker mentioned is a term in our language that is a compound of the words ‘schaden’ and ‘freude.’ Schaden means ‘damage or harm,’ and freude means ‘joy.’ That term can be translated as joy from others’ pain. Schadenfreude can mean a feeling of pleasure or satisfaction that arises after hearing about someone who is experiencing difficulties, failure, humiliation, or suffering.
The schadenfreude that the speaker meant was, of course, the death of Mr. Warm. Who was the speaker? He was a member of the Felsenmann family. His full name is Farcu Friedrich Felsenmann. Currently, he is a member of the parliament of the Federal Republic of Deutschtonia.
