Chapter 5:
Betrayed by my group, I walk alone in the shadows of the other world
The princess Margarida and I left the store. I had bought several clothes for her using her own money, but she couldn’t complain since it would be necessary and she would need them a lot.
“Are we leaving now?” asked Margarida.
“I haven’t even started exploring this place and you already want to leave?” I replied.
She gave me an angry look.
“Give me my bag back immediately!” said Margarida furiously.
“Alright, but before that, I’ll do something,” I answered.
I opened her bag and tore the map apart. Now, the only intact map was the one with me. Without it, she wouldn’t be able to return to the nobles’ district, since I bet she had never stepped foot in this area.
Margarida then knelt down and looked at the torn map.
“What have you done?!” asked Margarida.
“Let’s stop with the lies,” I told her.
She didn’t understand what I meant.
“You said you had been here before, but to walk in the nobles’ district you don’t need a map. To walk in the commoners’ district, however, you do need one,” I told her.
She was speechless and didn’t know how to react.
“Let’s go. Be honest and tell me what you truly think about the commoners. There’s no way you can deceive me,” I said.
She stayed silent and got up.
“If you must know the reason, it’s because once, when I came here, they tried to grab me by force. I have trauma from this place,” Margarida answered.
Margarida, how disgusting you are. You keep telling me lies, but I know how to find out if you’re lying or not. Still, it’s clear you’re lying.
“I have an idea to test whether you can be trusted,” I told her.
“And what would that be?” she replied with a smile.
She must think I’ll fall for her tricks.
“Margarida, what is your level and your combat style?” I asked her.
“I’m level 20, and my style is long-range magic,” she replied.
“I see. How about we find a guild and form a temporary party?” I asked.
“That won’t work. My father registered me in a group with other kingdom soldiers. I’d have to leave them, and besides, there’s only one adventurers’ guild in the nobles’ area,” Margarida answered.
She doesn’t seem to be lying, but I suspect that this wench and the king let the soldiers fight at the front so she can level up. I’ll find out now.
“Let’s go to an equipment shop and buy something,” I told her.
“But you can’t use equipment!” she replied.
I smiled.
“Who said it’s for me? The equipment will be for you. I really want to test your skills,” I answered.
She was startled and went silent. We found an equipment shop and entered. The blacksmith was working on weapons.
“Who are you?” asked the blacksmith.
“I am one of the heroes, and this is Princess Margarida Argarill,” I told him.
He burst into laughter. That was a reasonable reaction, since this princess had probably never set foot here.
“This is the princess? Hahaha!! Then I must be the king in disguise,” the blacksmith said mockingly.
I then showed him the bag full of money.
“Don’t tell me this really is Princess Margarida Argarill?!” said the blacksmith.
“I’ll explain the situation to you,” I replied.
Margarida looked at me.
“I’ll go outside. Could you hand me the bag of clothes?” she asked.
I handed her the bag of clothes and she waited outside. Then I explained everything to the blacksmith. He told me his name was Edyl. He had excellent tools, so I bought mage clothes and a staff.
“Could you give me the best quality sword here?” I asked him.
“Do you want a physical sword model or a magical one?” Edyl replied.
So there are two types of weapons in this world: one for those without magic and another for those with magic. I decided to test if Margarida was telling the truth, so I bought both a physical and a magical sword.
“Thank you very much for the business, boy. May your plan succeed,” Edyl said with a smile.
I left the shop and saw Margarida already wearing new clothes. She probably wet herself again. I asked her to wear the cloak and take the staff, but she refused.
“Don’t tell me you want to take me into fields and forests full of monsters,” Margarida asked, terrified.
“You already have experience and your combat level is great, so don’t complain. Let’s go—unless you’d rather stay here in this district?” I replied.
She stayed silent and obeyed me. We left the Argarill kingdom. Who would’ve thought my first adventure would be with the princess?
We came across a field full of slimes. Usually in games, slimes are the easiest monsters for beginners to kill and level up with.
There were different-colored slimes: one blue, one purple, and one red.
“Don’t let the red slime attack me under any circumstances,” said Margarida.
“Hey princess, at least tell me why there are three types of slimes here,” I asked her.
“The blue slime can slow you down, the purple one can poison you, and the red one is the worst—it can turn you into its servant. The effect lasts for 24 hours,” Margarida explained.
Those are annoying abilities. Now I understand why she doesn’t want the red one to touch her. But if the purple one hits her, she’d be poisoned and might die.
So we started fighting. The princess began reciting spells and throwing fireballs at the slimes, destroying them quickly. I pulled out the magical sword I had bought and began attacking the slimes, defeating them one by one. I already had some experience with swords, since I had taken fencing and kendo classes.
We defeated all the slimes.
Suddenly, I heard a sound and a message appeared: my level had increased. I decided to check my status.

Skill: Skill Copy. Slime Acid. Slime Slow. Slime Pleasure.
Those were the slimes’ abilities? But I didn’t even use my skill to copy them. Then I realized I should try something I hadn’t done yet: clicking on my Skill Copy ability.
I clicked it and a description appeared.
Skill Copy: by touching any living being, you can copy their ability for a few minutes. But if you kill them, you can steal their ability permanently, provided their level is higher than yours.
That’s an amazing ability, almost too powerful. For now, I’ll keep it secret. In fact, I think I could use the Slime Pleasure skill on the princess to make her tell me something.
When I checked the skill, it said it required at least 10 MP per use. I need to defeat more monsters and keep leveling up.
“Why do you have a magical sword?” Margarida asked.
“Seems you were wrong. I can use any type of weapon,” I replied.
I also showed her the physical sword. She was speechless.
“You’ve already seen my skills, so I presume you’re satisfied,” said the princess.
“Easy monsters like these are boring. Let’s find something much harder to fight,” I replied.
Her reaction was hilarious. Besides, I need to level up so I can test the Slime Pleasure skill on her soon.
We kept walking across the field until we saw a commoner boy lying on the ground, crying.
“Hey kid, why are you crying?” I asked him.
“My sister and I went to the forest to pick some apples for some nobles, but a giant minotaur appeared and attacked us,” the boy replied.
“Where’s your sister?!” I asked him.
“She told me to run, saying she could handle it, but I don’t think that’s true. So I ran to get help and fell,” he answered.
Defeating a minotaur would be great to level up, but I wasn’t sure if I could handle it.
“Let’s leave, and don’t even think about fighting the minotaur,” said Margarida.
I looked at Margarida and smiled. I already knew who could fight the minotaur.
