Chapter 14:

Search And Rescue

Draconic Verse

The Bookworm drove alongside the firetrucks as they roared their way towards the lava monsters. Who roared back in an alien manner.

Are they supposed to be snails… or are they just slimes like from video games?

If these sorts of monsters were in video games, it is doubtful they would be a starting enemy like the noble slime.

Well I hope things don’t get worse… I really can do nothing but that huh?

The Bookworm looked back to the town he called home, the lava monsters were obviously making that their first target. Destroying all in their path on the way to get there.

If they're that strong, just how terrifying is the Dragon?

It was an obvious, but nonetheless discomforting thought.

People are trying to escape, but can they get out in time?

The first move these horrid creatures made was to fan out, it seemed destroying the town was not just an absentminded lashing out, but a specific goal with higher thought involved. The creatures were faster than they appeared, and there was an uncomfortably decent chance of them surrounding the town before a majority of its people escaped.

“We’re getting closer, y'all better get ready for some fun!”

The Bookworm shook his head after the Still-Somewhat-Frightened-But-Good-At-Hiding-It Officer's words, he didn’t have time to consider these things. His main goal was to get to the cave, and hopefully save his friend, who were themselves hopefully with the Knight. This factor was in essence an excuse, as the Bookworm wanted more than anything to confirm their safety, but knew it would not be right considering the present circumstances.

At least my throat started feeling better before coming here, it’s hard enough to contend with as things are.

As the Bookworm and his group got closer, the already intense heat seemed to be climbing. From minor discomfort to partial agony. Fortunately he switched to the firefighters fire safety gear to alleviate the pain.

“So a portion of these guys are gonna handle the forests, the rest will help us get through to the cave, is that understood?”

The problem, as it were, was the lack of a clear path. The directions to the cave were obtuse as they were, and now the difficult to navigate landmarks were on fire.

Gotta do something… I gotta think of SOMETHING soon.
