Chapter 8:
Second Chance At Life
It was a relief to know that I wasn’t alone in this world.
Otherwise I wouldn’t have lasted longer.
Although past that, it was a bummer Rin didn’t remember his past.
Jennifer thinks he’s toying with us, but who cares what she thinks.
She doesn’t like him.
I think it’s because of that shooter, and where he aimed.
He went straight for the head, and that may have caused him to lose all memories of his past when he reincarnated here.
So it’s convenient that Marissa has the ability to help us.
It saves us some time from trying to tell whether he’s telling the truth or not.
“Milady, what do you want me to tell him to do?”
I have to think for a while.
What is more important to ask?
Should I ask if he remembers our name?
The answer is going to be obvious, but it will at least clarify this misunderstanding.
Maybe Jennifer will be less harsh on him (which I doubt she will, she hates him to the core).
“Ask him if he’s lying to us. Does he know the following name: Catherine, Anthony, and Jennifer? And does he recall writing a letter to Jennifer?”
“And if he does remember, what was content in that letter?” Jennifer adds.
She really wants to know if he’s lying.
Marissa nods, and begins the session.
“Sir Tsubasa, answer my questions truthfully. Do you recall the names: Catherine, Anthony, and Jennifer?”
“I do not know these people. I have never met them in my life.”
“Do you remember writing a letter to Jennifer? Do you recall what you wrote in that letter?”
“I have never written a single letter to someone named Jennifer.”
She turns to me, awaiting for new orders.
I try to think here.
I look at Anthony, without saying a word in hopes of trying to ask for help.
He immediately suggests an idea, “Why don’t we ask for a full timeline of his past?”
“I think that’s a good idea,” Jennifer agrees.
This is what I fear would happen.
It’s what made him hesitate on this decision.
But we need answers.
I can’t hesitate now and decide what’s right or wrong.
“Ask him for a full timeline of his past.”
“Sir Tsubasa, tell us about your past. Give us every detail.”
“I was born in the Ninth of the Rabbit’s Foot in Year Two-Thousand One; I lived a life not knowing neither my parents’ face. It was lonely…”
He gave us a full detail of his life as Tsubasa, but nothing as Rin.
As he went on, tears started to stream down his cheeks—so I quickly ordered Marissa.
We are going nowhere with this, but I give Marissa my final orders.
“Sir Tsubasa, answer me truthfully. Does the name ‘Rin’ ring a bell to your ears?”
He stays silent.
Did something happen?
The moment he heard that, the ominous atmosphere became unsettling.
Both Anthony and Jennifer can feel it.
The tension is rising every second of silence.
“Sir Tsubasa, are you okay?”
Silence.
“Sir Tsubasa?”
No response.
“Sir Tsubasa, does the name ‘R—”
We are quickly startled as soon as someone opens the door to my room.
Kaito?
What’s he doing here?
He slowly walks towards us, analyzing briefly until he approaches Tsubasa.
Lightning conjures from his hand.
“Kaito, what are you doi—”
He attempts to plunge his lightning fist into the hypnotized Tsubasa; however, to our surprise, Tsubasa catches Kaito’s fist.
The unsettling tension causes all of us but the two to retreat.
Something is definitely wrong.
I can see visible magick present, surging around Tsubasa—like an aura—it surrounds him with it.
Its mere presence is filled with malice, frightening me every second I’m near it.
I want to run badly.
