Chapter 3:

Ellie

Testamentum Novum

Liam ran down the street known as Wall Street as fast as he could. No more than a few minutes ago, he picked up on a signal that souls give out to other souls. He had dubbed it the 'Soul Signal'. It was growing stronger and stronger, giving him more of a headache as it grew.

The sound was indescribable. It was like a loud, constant ringing that didn't stop.

And then, it stopped. It just cut off. It was so sudden, that it through Liam off balance. Had he been too late? Did he find them? Or had he been imagining the whole thing?

"What the hell?" He whispered.

"Liam?"

"What, Nathan?"

"That girl... she looks scared and lost." Liam raised his head and stared at the girl Nathan was talking about. She did, in fact, look lost. But she also looked beautiful. She had long, golden hair and vibrant green, no, emerald coloured eyes. She looked at Liam, who shook his head to clear his mind.

"You..." The girl said quietly. "You're like me, aren't you?"

"Yes." Liam nodded. "I'm a lost soul who's been cast out of Heaven. My name is Liam, and my host body is called Nathan."

The girl just stared.

"Do you have a host body?"

The girl shook her head.

"What's you name?"

"My name? M-My name is Ellie." She said hesitantly. "I lived and died here in New York recently. My twin sister, Kellie... she's over there." Liam followed the girl's finger and saw another girl. Golden hair and emerald eyes. She was almost perfectly the same.

"That's a problem." Nathan sighed.

"It won't matter as long as she accepts your soul within her body." Liam explained. "Come on. I'm not sure how much longer you have left."

"You're right. She's more faded than you were." Nathan pointed out. Liam had noticed as well. And she was still fading. She had maybe thirty minutes left, if she was lucky.

Without thinking, Liam tried to grab Ellie's hand, but of course, failed. His hand went straight through hers and was met with a chill instead.

"Ellie, look, I know we just met, but you have to trust me when I say you've only got about thirty minutes left to wander without a body." Liam told her. He saw fear suddenly erupt in her eyes, and then tears began to form. "Unless we can get you into Kellie's body."

Ellie looked at Liam, and then at Kellie.

"O-Okay." She nodded. Quickly, they made their way over to Kellie. Liam tapped her on the shoulder, and she spun around in surprise.

"Can I help you?" She asked rudely. She looked at Liam, and then past him to Ellie. "Ellie? But... y-you're dead."

"And she'll be even deader in about thirty minutes unless you listen to what we have to ask." Liam explained. Kellie gave him reluctant attention. "Long story short, Lucifer took over Heaven with the armies of Hell and kicked everyone that wasn't a Demon out. Souls included. Myself and Ellie were among them. On Earth, we have about 24 hours to live without a host body, otherwise, we'll find out of existence."

"I would like you to be my host body, please!" Ellie said quickly. "We can only possess someone with permission and the rules go that they have to look similar to us. You're the only person I know who looks like me. So, please?"

Kellie stared at Ellie and Liam with a mix of confusion and disgust.

"Do either of you know how insane you sound?" She halfheartedly laughed. Liam could see that she was on the fence.

"Ellie, place your hand through her arm."

"What?!" Ellie and Kellie said at the same time.

"You heard me. It's how I convinced Nathan to let me into his body."

"It's true." Nathan said out loud.

Reluctantly, Ellie did as she was asked and put her hand through Kellie's arm. Liam saw the life drain out of Kellie's face when it passed straight through.

"I think I'm gonna pass out." Kellie said lightly.

"I wouldn't recommend that." Liam said. "Truth be told, I've no idea how long she has left." Kellie glanced at Liam, then Ellie, then Liam once more. She placed her head down in thought, before bringing it back up and nodding.

"Okay. Does it hurt?" Kellie asked. Liam shook his head.

"It doesn't hurt at all." Liam told her. "The only thing that'll happen, is you'll black out for a short period of time." He turned to Ellie. "Pick a hole, and enter."

"Could you make it sound any worse?" Nathan giggled childishly.

"Oh shut it."
