Chapter 6:

Moving on from Julia and falling right into a trap

Soulmate Hunting

As the day went by Jack couldn't stop remembering Julia. Julia and him had come a long way in their relationship. She used to do so much for him like sometimes making him a good breakfast in bed in the morning to start the day. After Julia had left, he had to make his breakfast himself in the heat again. No matter what recipe he used he couldn't get it to taste as good as Julia's did. It was almost like he needed her in his life. He gave up cooking and for lunch he wanted to go to a restaurant instead. All the names that popped up in his mind were ones he'd taken Julia to or ones she liked. He couldn't get over her. But he knew it'd take time. Jack just tried to ignore any thoughts about Julia that came to his mind till then. That didn't work out at all. He had to find a way to make himself ignore these thoughts. Jack found a way to do this on his phone. Social media has the answer to everything. A fellow social media user had told about his experience and how he countered this. He suggested putting a rubber band on your wrist that you should stretch and hit yourself with every time you think about the memories you shared. The pain would force Jack to not think about Julia anymore.

By the time Jack finally got over her he had a temporary scar from all the times he hit himself with the rubber band on his wrist. He put some ointments on it to help it heal and soon afterwards he was ready again to date. He didn't want to date with that mark on his wrist or people would think he's crazy. Jack went on multiple dates with multiple women of different characters but found no one he saw a future with. The dating thing was clearly not working out. His only success in dating in so long was Julia. This made Jefferey, Charlie and Timothy think as if his relationship with Julia was just a lucky fluke as well. Jack needed a new way to find a lover. Other than ridiculing him Timothy gave Jack the news of him getting engaged to his girlfriend Christine. Jack was really happy for him and congratulated him but at the same time worried for himself because it was time he'd go towards that road too.

Not only did his friends establishing their families and building their homes pressure him but so did the frequent checks by his cousins and aunts about when he was planning to get married. Jack shifted to online dating to find someone he can take that step with and finally end his cousins' and aunts' curiosity about his marriage. He had eyes on many things he wanted to try under this online dating. Applications like tinder, messaging people he thought he wanted to see with him walking on the aisle and standing on the stage in front of the pastor. This seemed alot easier but there were a lot of difficulties too. Some of the women he reached out to rejected him, said he wasn't their type and passed all sorts of hurtful comments too. This seems relatively normal. Doesn't it? But what came next was a complete surprise, he never imagined this ever happening to him. He heard stories of this happening with others but being directly involved in it himself was the worst.

He matched with someone who seemed of great caliber on tinder. He talked to her for weeks. They shared flirty comments, he complimented her and they enjoyed telling stories about themselves to each other. Her name on the profile was Kacey. She was a blonde and beautiful, adventurous woman judging of the pictures on her profile. But something was wrong. Every time Jack proposed the idea of meeting in person she said no and made up some excuse. Once about her having a flu she didn't want Jack to catch, once about her being abroad and once about having some company over and being too busy to find time to get out of the house. When she did finally agree on meeting, Jack was really excited. Could Kacey be the one he was looking for? He thought so. He truly did. She said she'd wait for Jack at 5 pm for a nice cup of tea at a small restaurant. It didn't look like a place many women would visit but he didn't bother getting too into the location. When he reached there he saw no women just sad, old men. He received a message saying I'm on my way so he still had hope. Soon a car pulled over out of which came a nerdy looking twenty year old. That boy introduced himself to Jack as Kacey and started laughing. Jack got catfished. The boy thought of this as a hilarious prank while Jack's feelings had been played with and he felt terrible. The boy started recording him. Apparently he had a YouTube channel where he posted these pranks. Jack couldn't imagine what his friends would say when they saw the video. He begged him not to post it but that didn't work. He asked Jack to do him a favor in return. Jack so desperately wanted the video deleted that he agreed. He had Jack do some secret drug work. Thankfully he stayed true to his promise and deleted the video. Jack was going through so much just to have a successful love life but it still wasn't working out. Maybe it wasn't in his destiny.
