Chapter 1:

1

The last day in Temny

I looked out of the window, and it seemed cloudy. The clouds were grey. It was going to rain soon. It was the last class of the day; we were studying mathematics. The teacher was writing a few questions on the board for us to copy down. Nobody was looking on the board, everyone was busy with their own stuff. Usually, they are like this every day. The last class is either mathematics or English. The boy who was sitting in front of me seemed to sleep. His hands were on his head and his eyes closed, facing the table. That's the way people used to sleep in class without the teacher noticing.

The teacher stopped writing on the board and looked around the class for a second. She had white chalk in her hand, which she threw away for some reason. As she sat down on her chair, she started packing her leather bag with a big blue stone in the center.

The bag was expensive. In it she kept her flower-printed handkerchief, her specs, her books, and a red stone necklace just like the blue stone. She never wore the necklace but she had always had it with her. One day, a girl asked her teacher why she always kept the red necklace in her bag, instead of wearing it. The teacher asked her " Do you have something in your life that you love more than yourself ?" The girl replied, " Nope, I love myself the most."

Soon, the bell rang and, everyone started packing up their books and so did i . I went outside the class, to the stairs. Our class was on the second floor. I headed up to the third floor, that's where the art class was. I was waiting and waiting but she didn't seem to come. I went inside and I saw she was sleeping the same way the boy in front of me was sleeping. The class was empty and she was the only one there. She was lying on a piece of paper. I went to her and tried to wake her up but She didn't wake up.

Finally, with all my courage, I shouted "wake up".

She woke up and said "you are too loud, keep it.." she paused and got up slung her bag on her shoulder went straight for the door. She stopped at the door and said "I won't be there.. soon" and started walking.

She was my best friend. She was very diligent with her studies but she sucked at singing and dancing. her life was full of paintings and colors.

she always tried to bunk up the class for dance and music by giving such horrible excuses. Last week, when we had our dance class, at the start of class she said to the teacher that she wanted to use the washroom and stepped out of the class. She always kept a small piece of paper and a pencil with a pointed tip in her trouser pocket. The teacher was teaching us a lesson on types of dances and noticed that she had not come yet. The teacher sent me to see where she was bunking her class. In the first place, I went to the art class, where she would be if she were skipping class, but she wasn't there. Then I checked the washroom and called out to her and a voice came which said: "here here". There I saw her sitting in a corner of the washroom drawing something on a piece of pair. That was shocking for me too, it was the first time I saw her drawing in the washroom.

When we reached the ground floor she asked me, "You want,s to go somewhere before going home?" I had many places I wanted to visit before going to Sodcine Wells. I move out this weekend. Sodacine Wells is popular for artistic values, but drug dealers consume fifty-two percent of Sodcine Wells and the next-door town is Largreat City, which is a small town known for gangsters. When I looked up the internet, the one place I saw was artistic and the other fifty-two percent was just the opposite of artistic values. My mother decided for me to study in an art school for higher education and Sodcine Wells was the best place where you can get the best art schools.I replied to her " I have many places, aquarium, Selina candies, karaoke, Pablo Picasso museum, and the Attal hill." The attal hill was far away. It would take us three hours to reach there nevertheless, I could see it from our house's rooftop. It looked beautiful during winters, with all the snow-covered mountains. During festivals, I could see the firecrackers above the mountain and the sunset going down slowly enjoying the festivals. I always kept wondering if I would ever be able to see the hill up close. I haven't been there in my eight years here. She said that we could go anywhere except Attal hill. I was a little sad, but I wanted to enjoy these little moments and we decided to go to Selina's candies, those were the best candies in all Temny. Mainly It was known for its sweet love candies. I wanted to taste all their famous flavors like cherry, mango, strawberry, dragon fruit, apple, and also their best-shining moon flavor.

After buying all these, we went chewing these to the Pablo Picasso museum because we still had an hour before it was seven. First, they told a brief about Pablo. The lady started saying "Pablo Picasso's full name was Pablo Ruiz Picasso and he was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, and theatre designer who spent most of his adult life in France. Few paintings by him which we will see today are; Guernica, The Old Guitarist, The Weeping Woman, and Garçon à la pipe."

She stopped there and showed us all around the museum and kept telling us about the paintings. A few of his paintings looked kind of weird to me and some just fascinated me with their colors. When I looked at Kou she looked lost in the paintings, she was watching them so closely that it made her look like some kind of freak and some people had also started staring at us. We took our bags from the counter and started walking home while chewing Selina's candies. While we were going I asked her what she meant when she said "I won't be there..soon", that confused me. I asked her " Do you know the future or you can see the future itself." She said "I can't see the future but you will go away this weekend and everyone knows that we have to die some or the other day, we never know when will that happen. I just wanted to say goodbye to you because I won't be able to come when you will be leaving. I have my admission exam here for art school." She took it pretty serious about what I said, for the rest way none of us spoke and we part our ways on the twenty-third Street.

I went straight home. Mom had made me curry and rice, after watching television for while. I went to my room and did some doodles of anything I could find in the room and at ten I switched off the lights and went to sleep.
