Detective: “So, Aradia- san I think it’s safe to say a job well done”

Aradia: “All thanks to you”

Detective: “So, remember the bug that you had put in that guy’s drink?”

Detective: “Well that bug was a GPS it was small enough to be swallowed without the person realising there was something there. So now that it’s in his system we can track him”

Aradia: “Ohhh yes!”

Detective: “He’s on the move. Looks like he’s heading towards the airport. We need to get to him fast”

Aradia: “Want a ride?”

*After the whole ‘Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift’*

Aradia: “Shall we, detective?”

*Back at Aradia’s place where they have held the guy (Rio) captive after the detective had beaten the living daylights out of him*

Aradia: “Why are you doing this to yourself?”

Detective: “What?”

Aradia: “You’re hurting yourself in the process while torturing him! As much as I’m enjoying this side of you, please stop! If you want I will take over and I WILL make him talk! But you doing this is not helping anyone. So, please for the love of God, stop, please”

Aradia: “I know there is more to the story. I know there is a reason why YOU out of everyone is helping me. There is a reason why you’re a rogue cop. And there is a reason why you’re after the gang, and for some reason I think it’s because of the same reason I’m hunting them down”

Detective: “You want the truth?”

Detective: “The reason why I want to hunt them down, torture them, make them beg for mercy is because they killed my wife!”

“Y-you were married? W-who was she?” I asked.

A weird lump was forming in my throat as a sharp pain entered my chest, my heart was hurting as my hand went straight to my chest. My breathing was heavy and I felt my nose and cheeks get warm as tears formed in my eyes.

Wait. Why is that making me sad?

He turned around nodding, his lips formed in a small smile and a far-away look entered his eyes. He slowly walked towards the window and placed his forearm against the wall, as he leaned against it.

“We met in college. It was so… unexpected. I was young and had quite a few girlfriends, but she… she was different, I don’t think I ever saw her even look at a guy that way. Her nose was always buried in a book, she didn’t have many friends, maybe one or two, she was as innocent as they come” he chuckled as he remembered.

“She wanted to be a writer. Said she would be known for her romance novels. A hopeless romantic, she called herself. We had the most cliché interaction, like straight out of a RomCom. Where the girl bumps into the guy dropping her books, he bends down to help her and their hands touch, they look up and boom love at first sight” he chuckles while sniffing a little, after taking a deep breath he continues.

“We became fast friends and it took me, in your language, ‘Bloody ages’ to confess, probably two years maybe. But when I did I swear it felt like I took off a backpack. It was after summer vacations when I told her and when I say she lit up like a candle I mean like ‘Bling’ we kissed for the first time as well. I could tell I was her first kiss and I intended to be her last. I made up my mind that no more mucking around, she was going to be my forever person” he turned around.

“We had a long-distance relationship for a while when she was accepted in Cambridge University in London, but somehow we made it work. I was starting my training in the, TPA, Tokyo Police Academy, so she was the one who always made a visit whenever she could. She had breaks in between and would come for a week or two but we both waited in anticipation for summer, she got 6 weeks off then, meaning we could be together longer.”

I didn’t realise when I had moved from the sofa and was standing opposite him, leaning against the wall also looking out the window.

“She sounds lovely” I tell him in a quiet voice.

“She was amazing. Beautiful, kind, smart but most off all she had the purest heart. I remember when I failed one of my exams and I was so depressed, I worked so hard but she picked me up, calmed me down and gave me a pep talk I’ll never forget. She used to say, ‘Failure is just another reason to try harder’ she hated hearing me berate myself, she used to always threaten to beat me or something” he laughed making me chuckle too.

“But I know if I ever needed a cheerleader. If I ever needed someone to hype me up, I knew I could always, always count on her. She was my best friend. She was my support system. But most importantly, she was the love of my life”

He fell on his knees making me run to him immediately.

“Shh. If it’s too much you don’t need to continue” I tell him while trying to calm him down, he was a sobbing mess.

“No” he managed to croak.

“No, I want to tell you. I’m done keeping this inside me. It’s slowly killing me” he told me.

I gave him some water and tissues before we sat down more comfortably on the carpet.

“A few months later she graduated from University and following a few weeks after that I graduated from the academy and officially became a Rookie cop, whereas she took up a job as a journalist in a company, and we both brought an apartment.” He smiled.

“One day I came home and she was sitting on the sofa, her eyes were red and puffy, tear streaks were on her face, I ran to her worried and before I could say anything she showed me a pregnancy stick, two lines were seen indicating she was pregnant. I was so happy I couldn’t help but cry, so there we were in each other’s embrace just crying on each other’s shoulder. We both decided to have a court marriage with her little sister as a witness and I had my older brother as my witness, we decided to get married properly in a few years’ time, so our child could also witness their parents getting married.” He had to pause there to take a sip of water.

“I started working overtime at work and before I know it I had the highest arrest record in the precinct, I was soon promoted to detective meaning I had some control over my hours and plenty of holidays built up which I decided to utilise after the baby was born”

A few tears slipped down my cheeks which I quickly wiped before the detective noticed. I wasn’t going to tell him how much his story was affecting me. He was married? And on top of that he has a kid? He had a wife? What?

Grandfather please help me!

“What happened after?” I asked.

“Well. 9 months later, she gave birth to our daughter, Anya. She was the cutest little thing ever! Still is the cutest thing ever! She looks exactly like her, sometimes when I look at Anya I see her” he sniffs wiping his tears with the back of his hand.

“Um, you were saying the gang killed her. How did they kill her?” I asked.

“Anya was 3 when I decided to put her in day-care so my wife could go back to work. Despite her denies I forced it on her, I didn’t want her to waste a single day, if I was following my dreams I wanted her to do the same. So, she decided to work part time in a convenience store while working on a book, she didn’t want to go back to the company she was working in before she had Anya so she quit there during her third trimester”

I felt him tense up as he struggled to form words, his sorrow now turning into anger as he clenched his fists, he was leaning over so I held his hand in mine placing my other hand on top, he looked up at me with his eyes ablaze.

“She told me she had to take the nightshift and if I could take care of our daughter, I agreed, but instead I should’ve denied! I should’ve told her to deny as well and stay home instead! More importantly I shouldn’t’ve forced her to get back to work” he slammed his fist against the ground multiple times before I stopped him, shaking my head.

“Anyways I was home and Anya was asleep, for some reason I was feeling weird like something was going to happen, I shrugged off the feeling and decided to watch something. An hour later I get a call from working saying that they caught the ‘Scorpion Gang’ in the convenience store she was working in! I got so scared! I quickly ran to my neighbour asking if she could watch Anya for a bit, she agreed and I left. And as suspected my wife was outside safe while the guy was inside. I ran up to hug her A massive fight broke out and bullets were flying everywhere. She died trying to save me, she got shot twice! She got shot with the bullets that were meant for me! I saw who shot her and wouldn’t stop shooting him until I ran out of bullets! Because of the chaos the gang managed to escape! Since then I vowed vengeance I’m not going to stop until I have placed a bullet in each of their heads!”

I gasped as my hand flew to my mouth; my heart broke for the poor woman. She didn’t deserve this. But I know where she might be and that she’s safe and happy, her killer on the other hand, not so much!

“W-what was her name?” I asked.

“Sakura” he told me while looking at me with the most broken look ever.

I looked at him in disbelief. Both women had the same name and they both left Earth in the same way while saving the ones they loved. But how is that possible…?

I sat there rooted to the carpet not knowing what to do. I sat up tucking my legs underneath me so his face was buried in the crook of my neck. His body shaking, he cried hysterically. All I could so was rub his back soothingly and wipe his tears as they kept flowing.

An hour later he calmed down, I looked down to see him sleeping. I guess all that tired him out. I brushed his hair from his face and wiped the tears from his cheeks. I made him sit up so he was leaning against the sofa. Grabbing a pillow I put his head up while trying not to wake him and slid the pillow underneath.

“I promise you, detective. I will get the necessary information even if I have to squeeze it out of him. He doesn’t know who he’s dealing with. Now he’s gonna see the devil” I gave him my word while slowly running my fingers through his hair.

I got up and quietly left the living room, quietly shut the door slightly leaving it ajar, and made a beeline towards our prisoner.

“Good. You’re awake. So this will make things a lot easier for me. Now you have an option you can either tell me everything. Or I will use other ways to make you talk!” I told him as I felt myself change.

With the way he was cowering back and tried to jump out of the chair he was tied to, it was quite obvious my Devil face had appeared, he started screaming making me grab his jaw shushing him immediately.

“Shush! You’ll wake the detective!” I tell him.

“N-no p-please don’t kill me! I-I’ll tell you everything!” he begged.

Oh for the love of… What is it with these humans thinking that I’M the one to kill them? Like I don’t have anything better to do! Like, hmm, let’s see, rule Hell maybe! Anyways…

“So tell me, Rio. What is it you truly desire?” I ask while looking in his eyes.

One of the perks of being the Devil’s daughter is that we both have the same power, to see what people truly desire, with the help of hypnosis that no one is immune to.

“I… I want… I want to become the leader” he told me.

“Yeah?” I smirk.

He shakes his head coming out of the spell.

“Got tired of being in the shadow while the leader got the limelight? Got tired of getting your hands dirty did you, Rio, hmm? Wanted something more than just following orders! Ahh, you wanted to be the one to GIVE the orders didn’t you?” I ask trying to dig a little deeper in his mind.

He nods while avoiding my penetrating gaze as I hovered over him, my face was inches away from his as I gripped on the armrests and leaned forward.

“Why were you fleeing?” I then ask him.

“What? How do you know that?” he asks me surprised.

I raise my eyebrow and roll my eyes.

“Hey! I’m the one asking questions around here!” I tell him as he cowers even further back and nods intimidated.

“Also, I’m the devil. I have eyes everywhere. And especially on you and your little gang” I tell him.

“I was fleeing because the ‘Striker’ found out about my plans. And he was going to kill me. So I stole his Tesla and was about to get to the airport but you found me” he explains.

“And who is this, Striker?” I asked.

“Our leader. We don’t know his name and never saw his face. He always wears a mask that covers the left side of his face and calls himself the striker because he always ‘Strikes’ when everyone least suspects it”

I nod as I straighten my elbows so we’re no longer face-to-face.

“But how did you find me anyways?” he asks.

“What did I tell you? I’M the one asking question around here! But if you must know I bugged your drink with a GPS like how YOU spiked my drink!” I tell him before punching him in the face and knocking him out cold.

Uff, Aradia! You were supposed to get more information from him not knock him out cold! Anyways when he wakes up I’m continuing the interrogation! The detective cannot know anything about this. But I am going to help him before I find Dad. I gave you my word, Detective, and I never back down from it.

I go back downstairs and slowly open the door of the living room only to see the Detective still sleeping peacefully. I slowly walked over to him and sat down while tucking my legs underneath me. A small smile appeared on my lips when while I was running my fingers through his hair he held my hand.

“Sakura” he mumbled.

The smile left my face and was replaced with a small frown.

Keep your feelings in check, Aradia. He’s not yours. Besides you’re just friends keep it that way and you won’t get hurt…
