Chapter 13:

The Untold Half Truths

Void in the Realm

Kendra took a deep breath and she started breathing normally. “Kendra, we will go to the house in another seven minutes. Please drink some water,” the driver gave a bottle of water and hit the road. “What is happening to me?” Kendra asked. “The oxygen was not sufficient for your body. I shouldn’t have taken you via the scenic route I suppose. It is longer than the usual route you take back home. But I am not sure why your body is not withstanding this environment. Are you new to this town?” the driver asked. “Yes, I am. Is this the only town that has lesser oxygen content?” Kendra asked. “Are you okay ma’am? You seem to have forgotten everything from our world,” the driver asked. “Probably I should take some rest,” Kendra managed not to show she did not understand about this universe. “Here you are! We were worried,” The Sanders were waiting outside of their house with Leona when she entered. “Long story. Could we please go inside? I really could use some oxygen,” Kendra responded.

The house is fully oxygenated. “I have so many questions,” Kendra said while entering the house. Rando came running once he saw Kendra. “Hello Buddy! I am all right. Never stay longer outside Rando,” Kendra warned Rando. “You got a parcel Kendra, I kept it on your table,” Leona said while brushing Rando. “Thank you, Leona!” Kendra said with a smile. Leona and Rando got back inside and they started playing. “I need to know more about the universe and I think you will know something that others in this universe don't know. I would like to know that as well,” Kendra said. “Let’s talk over dinner,” Treyton suggested. “It’s Tuesday! How about some Tacos sweety?” Samantha asked. “Wait a minute. How do you know tacos? I thought this universe does not have tacos. I am going crazy. Could you please explain what is going on?” Kendra outpoured. “Please have a bite. You must be hungry and I understand your frustration,” Treyton said calmly.

“I do not think you understand anything I am going through. I am an alien to this universe and I have no clue why I am welcomed here as if you were expecting me. I definitely do not understand a lot of things about this universe. I did try to research certain things about this universe but most of them are controversial so I am clueless on what to believe anymore,” Kendra poured her heart out as she almost died today. She took a bite of the Taco and felt so good. “This Taco is super delicious Sanders. Thank you for making this for me too,” Kendra cooled down a bit after having a bite. “Yes, it is not fair for us to not reveal the truth after everything that happened today. One of us is from Universe 435 and I do not want to tell you which one of us just yet. This makes Lev and Leona, hybrid. This is one of the main reasons why we know exactly what you are going through right now,” Treyton explained. “I am afraid we can reveal any more information to you just yet. Keep continuing your work and that will be our only way out,” Samantha continued. “What do you mean by only way out. Does that mean we are stuck here? Is there no way of surviving in this universe?” Kendra asked.

“It’s complicated to explain. So, what you went through today would happen if you travel longer distances. That is the reason why you were confined to the same route every day. When you enter the lab and our house, it is all oxygenated. But you couldn’t possibly expect the same elsewhere. Luckily, the place where you lost your breath had an ancestor who was a hybrid that helped you get an oxygen pill. This wouldn’t always be the case,” Samantha explained when Lev and Leona weren’t around. “Great! So, people had traveled from universe to universe before? But how? Is the same method possible now?” Kendra asked. It’s not as straightforward as you think it is. Two decades ago, Sam and I met in Universe 12 and we decided to come back to universe 435 and start our lives together. But the government here found out that this inter-universe travel had happened here not just in research labs but in public,” Treyton said.” And made sure all the experiments towards that program stopped as both our habitats were entirely different, which was not what they expected.” Samantha continued. “There are very few survivors in this universe as the oxygen content is way lesser. The people who traveled from here to Universe 12 are having the time of their lives. At least that is what I think,” Treyton said. “But we did make this choice together so we both were happy with our lives here, until our kids started having side effects,” Samantha said with a concerned face. “Let’s not share anymore and burden you with our story. We shall focus on getting us all out of here,” Treyton said.

Rando came running and sat on Kendra’s lap. He started playing with him knowing that she was upset. “Hey buddy! I know it is a lot of information. Come on let’s go and get you some treats,” Kendra said in a baby voice. “Thank you for sharing this with me. This explains all the different food items in my kitchen,” Kendra smiled and walked towards her stay area. “That was Treyton’s little invention,” Samantha looked at Treyton and grinned. “I have a quick question,” Kendra said. “How about Luther? Is he,” Kendra got distracted by Rando’s bark. She noticed Luther, Ray and Treyton together in the picture way up the stairs. “You were saying,” Treyton looked at Kendra which looked a bit scary for a second. “Yes! How about Luther? Is he coming tomorrow?” Kendra was about to ask if he was human but decided not to once she saw the picture of those three together. “Sure, he will be there, so will I,” Treyton replied with a calm face.

Kendra wasn’t sure if she imagined Treyton with that strange look or he really did give. She had a way too long day to think about it now. She went straight to her room and took a shower. She came to the kitchen to grab some dessert. She picked brownies with ice cream. She sat on the table to eat. That's when she noticed a parcel that was left on it. She remembered Leona mentioning it. She checked and it was addressed to Dr. Myra and it was from Dylan. She had all sorts of unexplainable emotions inside of her just to see his name on the box.
