Chapter 19:

Volume 1 Epilogue: Erika's Letter

The Skeleton & The Idiot Sorceress

Night hit and Erika and I stopped to set up camp for the night. We found a fairly clear area in the woods. I started a campfire and cooked up potatoes once again for her to eat. After she finished eating, I noticed she had grabbed a few items from her backpack. She went and sat up against a fallen tree. The items she had were a piece of paper and a pen. She began to write something on the paper.

"What are you doing?" I asked her.

"Oh I'm just writing a letter to everyone back home." She replied

I was a bit confused.

"I thought you were illiterate? How are you writing a letter."

"I can't write words, but I was going to try to draw pictures of everything that happened to me so far on my adventure."

I looked at her piece of paper. It was full of scribbles and stick figures. I couldn't really make out what anything was. It looked like it was drawn by a toddler.

"Can any of those goblins back home read human language?" I asked.

"Yes I believe one or two of the town elders can."

"Alright, how about I just write this letter for you?"

"Oh yes, thank you, Mr. Arno! That would be a big help."

I spent the next hour or so writing out her letter. This is what she had me write:

Dear everyone,

This is Erika! The new friend I just made helped me write this letter. I am doing well and am making sure to brush my teeth everyday and keep up with my personal hygiene.

My adventure has been great so far. The most amazing thing happened. I happened to see a strange structure up in the mountains, so I wandered up and it ended up being something called a labyrinth.

I made it all the way to the bottom floor, where I met a skeleton who is also a sorcerer. His name is Mr. Arno and he's the friend I mentioned earlier. At first, I thought he might be some kind of creep, but despite being kind of serious all the time, he is not a bad guy.

He and I had to go through a bit of an ordeal to escape that Labyrinth. We had to make it past a giant zombie cow thing. Then Mr. Arno had to box another really angry short skeleton. I met some ghosts that I got along with, but for some reason they didn't really like Mr. Arno. After that we encountered some more skeletons. These ones were nice at first, but kind of turned out to be giant weirdos. Lastly, Mr. Arno and I had to play some really boring old man games against some undead pirates.

Mr. Arno and I are just beginning our adventure. I decided to hold off enrolling in the Royal Mage Academy for now because Mr. Arno agreed to take me as his apprentice. He said he will teach me to be a real sorceress.

This journey has been real fun so far and I can't wait for what's next. I'm not sure how long it will be until I see you all again, but I miss all of you and think of you everyday.

Love,

Erika

Erika seemed very happy with the letter. I took the piece of paper and stuffed it in an envelope. The only thing I wondered now was how the heck was I supposed to mail a letter to a secluded goblin village?
