Chapter 6:

The Task Lays On Your Shoulders

Proxima Ascension

I was inside the palace, I tried to keep my composure. The majestic halls were opulent, occupied with iridescent chandeliers and baroque statuaries. I tried to keep my gaze forward, concentrating on the task at hand, but I couldn't help but feel incredulous by the grandeur of it all.

I had to remind myself that this was not a time for wonderment or admiration. I was here to permeate the Dream Weaver's inner circle, to gain her faith and collect information for the resistance. I had to be prepared, engrossed, and ready to act at a moment's notice.

I strode with perseverance, my steps measured and deliberate, as I made my way towards the room where the Dream Weaver and her inner circle were meeting. I could hear their voices wandering down the corridor, their words stifled and indistinct. I took a deep breath and handled for the door.

As I entered the room, I witnessed The Dream Weaver sat at the head of the table, her intense eyes visualising the room as her advisors spoke in hushed tones. I took a deep breath and approached her, my mind racing as I tried to think of something to say.

"May I have a word with you, Dream Weaver?" I questioned, my voice stable despite the turmoil within me.

The Dream Weaver turned her gaze to me, her eyes narrowing as she assessed me.

"And who might you be?" she asked, her voice cold and clipped.

"I am a servant in the palace, Your Excellency," I responded, trying to keep my voice even. "I overheard some disturbing information, and I thought you should know."

The Dream Weaver's interest was piqued, and she motioned for me to approach.

"What did you hear?" she asked, her tone betraying a hint of curiosity.

I leaned in close and whispered in her ear, my heart racing as I spoke. I had rehearsed this conversation a hundred times in my head, but nothing could have prepared me for the weight of her gaze upon me.

The Dream Weaver listened intently, her eyes secure on mine, as I spoke. When I finished, she sat back in her chair, her eyes tightening as she considered what I had said.

"Very well," she said, her voice truncated and slow. "I will investigate this matter further. Thank you for bringing this to my attention."

I bowed greatly and stepped away from the table, I had done it. I had gained the Dream Weaver's trust, and now it was up to me to use that trust to gather intelligence for my team.

They would be lingering around outside, I speedily paced away from her table, not observing the prying and hesitant consultants, inquisitively viewing me as if I was the new art piece in the gallery.
