Chapter 3:

It's Almost Time!

Machines of War

Kelly was walking down the street to Mai's house. Kelly had asked Mai the night before if her best friend could ride with her, and she was on her way to pick her up. She was walking down the block and sipping coffee out of her deep blue therms. It was a little cold for Autumn, but Kelly was only wearing a light jacket the color of red wine. She was interrupted from taking a sip, when something crashed into her leg. She looked down to discover it was Mai's little brother, Max. She knelled down to help the brown haired boy up.

"Are you ok?" She asked, then started to check the back of his head for any injuries. She got pushed away by little 8 year old hands, then the small boy nodded.

"I'm fine." He said. "I was told by my mama to come by to tell you Mai was going to be a bit late, but you're on your way here, so come on!" He exclaimed before coming back the way he came before Kelly could respond. She then hurried to follow Mai's younger brother. She spaced out as she walked, and didn't know how many minutes, or seconds, had passed before she got to the front door of her best friend's house.

She was greeted by Mai's mother, and moments later, Mai walked out of the bathroom. She smiled, then walked over to give Kelly a hug. Kelly then smiled and picked Mai up to spin her around, in which Mai squeaked in reaspoce as Max laughed a bit.

"I missed you." Kelly said. It had been a while since they stuied together, and they were going to review in the car. She had a feeling Mai was studying on her own, and Kelly really should've done the same. She'd spent the few days since they had studied together dreaming about how cool it would be to get accepted into this academy. Mai chuckled.

"It's been five days, and we went for the gym two days ago." She said, steadying herself  as she was set down. It really wasn't long since they'd seen each other, but Kelly had a weird habit of overreacting when she saw a fried for more than five hours. "Anyways, we should get to the car, we need to leave soon." She said. Mai was nervous, and Kelly could tell, so she gave the best friend one more hug before they both went back to her house and her mom started running down the list of everything they both could possibly need. Once everything was checked off, they were both in the van and on their way to really start the most nervewrecking day of their life.
