Chapter 1:

Mission: Kill the Devil

The City Far from Bliss

Radiation Lad sat reclined at his desk, holding a half-empty coffee mug to his lips, waiting for his computer to connect. He was connecting to his mission manager. He had sent his henchman hurtling through the hoops of uncovering how his former boss, Radiation Man, had worked. Radiation Man was a villain, now he was just a pile of bones and countless newspaper articles. Radiation Man was prolific, prolific enough to have been targeted and killed by the infamous hero Triumph. Radiation Lad now held an unshakeable hatred towards Triumph. He had killed his boss, but Radiation Man was more than a boss to him, he was his father.

The dreaded circle of loading rotated one last time.

Welcome Radiation Lad, this is your first mission, don’t mess up.

Today you are tasked with killing the villain known as Little Devil. She has a multitude of murders to her name, ordered by us, but now she threatens to expose a facility of ours. She is planning to meet with Commissioner Charlie this evening over dinner. She lives on Tyler Street, within the “Slum District”. I recommend you do the kill quietly, and get some form of confirmation. Her powers are registered as plant manipulation, and her preferred method of killing is via strangulation.

‘Is there any more information you can give me?’ Radiation Lad typed with one hand as he gulped down the rest of his coffee.

‘That's a general question.’

‘How many murders? Any parts of her power should I be wary of?’

‘Police reports connect her to five different murders.’

‘What were their names?’

‘Cluster, Shrapnel, Wonder Jr, Bulk, and Oinky.’

‘Were they all killed the same way?’

‘Cluster, Shrapnel, and Oinky were all strangled to death after confronting her atop Siff Tower. Wonder Jr. was killed by dehydration; their water suit had been pierced in multiple places, resulting in their death. At the time of their death, they had been working on finalizing Zeta’s second iteration. Shrapnel, who was killed through blunt force trauma, was the first version of Zeta’

‘Ok. Thank You.’

‘Happy Hunting’

His mission had been assigned, but he still felt slightly anxious. This was his first appearance in months, the first one since the death of Radiation Man. He would be on his own, his training wheels had been removed, and he could now fall. He placed down his coffee mug, turned off his laptop, and stood up. He made his way to his door, swinging it open.

“Get the motorcycle gassed.” He pointed to the Henchman in the hallway

“Tell the others to prepare the van as an escape vehicle.” He yelled as the Henchman hurriedly ran towards the garage.

He started his walk towards his garage, he owned a sprawling piece of property. It was registered as a place of future development under some old rich man’s name. It never was tracked back to Radiation Man, even after his death, so Radiation Lad had inherited it, along with around thirty henchmen.

He made his way towards his motorcycle, the Rad Cycle, as Radiation Man used to call it. It was a stupid name, but was now laced with nostalgia for Radiation Lad. He put on his helmet and his riding jacket, safety first he thought. He started up his motorcycle and began his thirty minute ride into Blissdom.
