Chapter 3:

A Silent Occurence II

SoraHino: A Love In Silence

The school bell rings and Sora Shinomiya packs his books into his bag while taking out his headphones. As he finished zipping his bag, he looked over to the other end of the class. The silent girl is gone. Sora was slightly stunned as the notion came to him: Another student went home quicker than the one who does not join any clubs and avoids any form of social contact.

Proceeding through the corridors, now he heads towards the manga café. He wears his backpack on one of his shoulders with his headphones on accompanied by his playlist. In this state even a person at talking distance would barely be audible.

Impressions on the music. Criticism on the latest anime episode watched. A plan on his homework. And a minor curiosity if the girl will be there. These are the thoughts that governed his head during the walk.

To Sora there are two forms of thinking: noisy and quiet. The first refers to any thought arising from undesired external stimuli, which usually leads to stress and/or annoyance. Examples would be homework, school lessons, boring conversation topics and attention seekers. Other than school or family related stuff they are simply redundant and is simply dismissed by Sora.

Among all of his thoughts during the walk, all of them were quiet.

"Welcome."

Directly upon entering the café Sora's question was answered. In the same seat, in the corner of the store. Her hair the color of silence, extending itself down to the face of her seat, enveloping her entire upper body, sheltering her from the noise. Contrasting her hair, her eyes illuminates a fluorescent purple. The color does not reflect the phone she is currently looking at. Rather, the limitless worlds of fantasies she evokes. Within them exists a spectrum of colors broader than the color spectrum and where the only law of nature is none. Covered by the blanket of darkness, the soft luminance glows even more intense.

As Sora moves towards his usual seat, which is three table away from her, and his vision of her becomes clearer, he notices that her hair is slightly disheveled. Her ears slightly visible showing her white earphones, the cords stretching down on to the table and finally plugged to the phone on her hand. All the while as Sora moves closer, the girl did not once return the gaze.

Sora sits in his usual place. This time conscious that the girl is behind him. But of course Sora knows he can't always be thinking about her. He has stuff to do.  And so, he continues with his normal routine. First homework, then read some manga.

"It's closing time." The regular signal for Sora to head back home. The remaining customers were Sora and the girl. As he packed up he catches a glimpse of the girl. This time she seems to be doing some home work. Shouldn't she be packing up? Before leaving the store, he looks back again to a scene that seems to answer his question.

The girl is still sitting there, working, while the shop owner, seemingly oblivious to the girl, tidies up the tables. Is the owner simply ignoring the girl? Or is he letting the girl complete her task before asking her to leave? Or maybe the girl is the shop owner's family?

The next day, the same events occur in school and in the café. During lunch, the girl would leave the class and return right before the next class. Same seat in the manga café and they are again the last customers. While the girl remained seated, Sora was asked to leave.

Not only the next day and the day after that, but this continued to happen for a few weeks, during which never did Sora felt uncomfortable or disturbed. It was different, but it is still quiet this new silent routine of his. And of course, he also considers the girl as part of his routine.
