Chapter 5:

I'm in big trouble

Kicks & Bows

“Marin, do you have everything ready for school?”

“Screw you.”

The sweet girl who just insulted me is Marin, my cute little sister.

“Remember that today I am going to be home late, so when you come back from school, heat up what I cook for you and my mom, the food is in the refrigerator.”

“I'm not a girl anymore, you don't have to tell me what to do all the time. Idiot.”

It seems that today she woke up in a good mood, I'm glad.

I said goodbye to my little sister and walked to school with Leonel as usual.

“Let me see if I understand, are you going to tutor the beautiful archery girl?”

“Yes.”

“And this is a special favor from the principal, who promised you a place at the Golden School for Marin next year?”

“That's right.”

“And today are you going to have your first tutoring session with her?”

“Yep.”

“…”

Leo was silent for a while; it was too much information to process. A couple of days had passed since I made the deal with the principal, and today was my first class with Andrea.

“You are kidding, right?”

“Nope.”

We got to school and I said goodbye to my best friend, who still wasn't convinced by my story. Afterwards, I went to the classroom, I was very nervous.

It is assumed that the director had already talked to Andrea and told her that now I would be her new tutor... I don't know how she's going to take it. Maybe she thinks it's a bad joke like Leonel and won't want to take my tutoring. I wouldn't blame her, even I think this plan is nonsense. Even so, I prepared a good class to learn about Andrea's weak points, and to have an idea of how to help her improve.

I was standing right in front of the classroom; an unexpected fear began to well up in me, I did not want to see Andrea. I stayed there for a few minutes until Mrs. Brown arrived.

I walked normally to my seat and right next to it there was her: the most beautiful face of all, expressionless as always. I decided not to greet her, I had stopped doing it a long time ago, since I never received an answer from her. She simply used to look at me for a few seconds and then turned away.

The class started and I focused totally, that helped me to clear my mind and stop thinking about the tutoring. It is curious how much you can learn when you are paying attention to the teachers, I even dare to say that if I did it every day it would not be necessary to study.

I had never wished that classes would not end, but there is always a first time. The school day ended and with it my ordeal began: I would have my debut as a tutor... or at least I thought so.

“Today I can't, I have to go to the archery club.”

Andrea shot back when I mentioned the tutoring thing.

“Didn't the director talk to you?”

“Yes, he told me that you would be my new tutor, I told him that I had no problem.”

“So, he didn't mention that today we would have our first class?”

“Yes, he said so too.”

“…”

“…”

We remained silent, but for different reasons: I because of the disbelief of her words and she because really did not understand what the problem was. In the end, in order not to waste any more time, I decided to give in.

“Well, the lesson needs to be cancelled. But I need you to tell me which days you don't practice archery to schedule your classes.”

“Every day I practice archery.”

I thought she was joking, but my gut told me this airhead was telling the truth.

“Ok, what days do you leave early from practicing?”

“None.”

I swear I was about to insult her, but I calmed down and patiently followed the conversation.

“Andrea, I need you to take this seriously. You must tell me which days you will be available to take the classes.”

“I can today.”

To hell with my sister's dream, it's not worth doing all this for her.

In the end, Andrea and I agreed that I would wait for her for 2 hours while she went to the archery club. I didn't like the idea of having to sacrifice more of my time on this, but the other option was to kill her and go to jail.

I waited for her in the library while I did my homework. I thought for a moment about going with Leonel and seeing how he trained, but I still don't have the courage to stand on the soccer field again.

Finally, she arrived at the agreed time. I was pleased that at least she proved to be punctual and complied with our agreement. Now yes, my debut as a tutor was about to take place.

“Well Andrea, this is going to be a special class. I prepared some tests to find out what your current academic level is and so I can realize your weak points. Please, start answering and when you finish we will have concluded for today.”

“Alright.”

Andrea took out a pencil and an eraser and began to solve the tests. I was really surprised that she was paying attention to me, and not only that, with the passing of minutes it seemed that she was really doing her best. She seemed totally focused on each of the questions; I even came to feel guilty about my previous thoughts.

An hour passed and she was almost finished, in all that time I was only there accompanying her and occasionally answered the questions she had.

Sitting so close to her made me a little nervous; it is different from when we are in the classroom, there were very few people in the library, and at the table we shared it was only her and me. I was sitting in front of her, and although I tried to look away with a book that I took, it was simply impossible not to appreciate those beautiful black eyes, those red lips like roses, her beautiful short black hair that enhances her beauty; but what was killing me the most was her scent… even after sweating from her archery training, she had a rich lavender smell that drove me crazy.

“I finished.”

I was lost in my thoughts when she told me that. I quickly regained my composure and returned to my role as a tutor.

“Thank you for your hard work, Andrea.”

I sincerely thanked her and she began to put her things away. She was about to leave when I stopped her for a second.

“Wait a bit Andrea, before you go we have to define the days of the lessons, so that the same problem as this afternoon does not happen.”

“Alright.”

She didn't seem to know many words, or at least that was the impression she was giving me.

“What days are you available to take my classes?”

“None.”

A déjà vu from the last conversation came to my mind, before going through the same thing again I decided to take the initiative.

“Well, I also go to the archery club on Tuesdays and Thursdays. How about if you take the lessons on those days? We can momentarily add Saturdays, at the time you want, so that you are well prepared for the first bimonthly exams, which are in just over two weeks.”

“Alright.”

It was exasperating that she would answer me so curtly, but at least her expressionless face told me that she understood what I was saying.

Finally, we went home. It was a very exhausting day, but I still had to check her tests.

“I'm back home!”

“Welcome home, my love. Come dine with us.”

My mother welcomed me with a big hug, and I sat down to eat dinner with her and my sister. Because of her work, I rarely see my mom during the week, so it was nice to spend that short time with her.

I finished dinner and went to my room. I lay on the bed and took a nap for 15-20 minutes. I wanted to continue sleeping, but I knew that I couldn't keep postponing the matter any longer.

“Okay, let's get this over with.”

I took Andrea's tests out of my backpack and one by one I began to check them. One by one…

“God, have mercy on me.”

I couldn't believe what I was seeing, absolutely all the answers were wrong, she didn't even get any multiple choice questions right.

Is this girl an idiot, or she just played a bad joke on me? The only thing certain is that I'm in big trouble.
