Chapter 36:

Location

Beyond The Void

“Alright, I’ve convinced Arthur, he’s on our side once we find her.” I informed the other two as we met up once again in the meeting place.

“Okay, that’s nice and all, but how exactly are we going to even locate her in the first place?” Emmett asked. “I mean, she could be anywhere! Didn’t you say you had a plan the last time we met up? What happened there?”

“It worked, I know where she is.”

“Wait what?” Emmett was flabbergasted, showing how little faith he had in me succeeding in the first place.

“Seriously?” Louise also seemed impressed.

“Guys, did you really have such little faith in me? Is my triumph truly such a shocking moment to behold?”

“Yes. I thought you’d fail miserably.” Louise immediately answered.

“Yeah, same, to be honest with you.” Emmett backed her up.

“Fools, the lot of you! I have come to show you how much of a genius I was by implementing this masterful masterpiece!”

“Stop being a poetic prick and just explain it already!” Louise said impatiently.

“Jeez, you guys have no flair for the dramatic.” I returned to my normal speech mode. “Alright, fine, I’ll explain from the beginning exactly what happened. It all started after we left the meeting the other day, with me promising to try something out. So what I did was to-wait a second, I have a better idea, I’ll just share the memory with you guys, its easier that way.”

We then got into the same position as we did last time and I then proceeded to initiate the memory transfer.

“Are you guys free tomorrow?”

Emmett and Louise stared at each other for a moment before bursting out laughing.

“What? What’s so funny?”

“Nothing.” Louise struggled to calm herself. “It’s just the way you said it so randomly. But yeah, I’m free.”

“So am I.”

“Cool, that’s it, then.”

We then proceeded to go our separate ways, however I waited for the two of them to leave first. I followed behind them until they were far head, then I turned back and re-entered the meeting place, going back down the stairs until I’d reached the circle with the strnge symbol on it, the same one they’d used to try to sacrifice my soul to open the gateway that connects The Void to Earth.

I reached into my pockets and took out a piece of flesh that I had been carrying with me for a while. I placed it on the circle then performed a familiar incantation: The necromancy spell. However, the energy required to construct a body back from just a tiny sample of skin would be immense, thus I would need to draw a massive amount of energy. Luckily, I had one right here at my disposal: The circle not only served as a place to perform a ritual, but also as a storage to stock up huge amounts of energy, we’re taking about enough energy that could be dangerously close to lethal if taken in by a single sorcerer.

I wouldn’t be taking it in, but rather redirecting it towards the piece of flesh, and using the massive amount of energy to reconstruct the body using just that. Yet, the absolute massive stock of magical energy was nowhere near enough to recreate the entire body, so I was left with the upper half of Joseph Wilkins’s body, aka Emmett’s father.

“Yo.” I greeted him. “You’re in rough shape.”

“That’s twice you’ve summoned me, fool.” He answered. “But it seems that Emmett and the girl aren’t with you this time, so what exactly do you need?”

“I need to know Selphine’s location.”

“Why would I tell you that? You’re threats won’t work on me this time, try it.”

I instantly sliced him in half-well I sliced the half of him into a smaller half.

“Argghh! You little-“

“Still don’t wanna talk?” I asked.

“No, I won’t. Just try it! You can’t make me talk through violence alone!”

“Why are you protecting her so much? Don’t you know what she’s doing?”

“And what exactly…is she doing…that’s so bad?” He struggled to get these words out as I used air to start choking him.

“She’s not letting me go home.” I stopped choking him after a few seconds to allow him to speak better.

“You moron! You incompetent fraud! Can’t you see she’s the one in the right in all this? She just wants to-” He immediately stopped after realizing what he’d just admitted to.

“So you knew the whole time, huh?”

“Yes, I was about to tell you before she interfered and took control of our spell. You really need to learn mastery of necromancy before attempting it, you know, otherwise a more experience user will simply snatch them up like toys they take from a children, and that’s exactly what she did.”

“It’s not about her, it’s about what I want to know.”

“If you go to her, you’ll die.”

“Nah, I don’t think so. Besides, that’s for me to worry about, you just tell me what I need to know.”

“Alright, alright, fine.” He finally gave in. “I’ll tell you where she is, alright? But in return, you have to leave me alone from now on and stop summoning me.”

“Don’t worry.” I reassured him. “This is going to be the last time.”

“Okay, but be warned, the entire force is gathering there. Those masked men you saw a few years back? There’s gonna be way more, probably over a hundred, to be honest. You have no chance of even surviving them, let alone making it to Selphine.”

“Shut up and tell me where.”

He relented and asked for a detailed map of the city, which I provided. He pointed to a mansion on the outskirsts and told me there was a secret entrance hidden somewhere, which he described to me its location in detail.

The memory then ended.

“Why didn’t you let us do this with you?” Louise asked.

“I didn’t want you two to be shaken again, I wasn’t sure how far I was going to have to go with him.”

“Makes sense.” Emmett nodded. “So now we know where she is, we know how we’re going to deal with her, but what are going to do with all these random minions?”

“We’ll see about that.” I answered confidently.
