Chapter 39:

The Final Battle

Beyond The Void

“I’M HERE FOR YOUR LIVES, YOU FRAUDS!” Emmett cried out while charging straight towards the front gate of the mansion, immediately triggering the magic barrier which had not been needed at all since he’d already been spotted by the masked men guarding the gate who instantly jumped, clearly having not expected a frontal assault at all.

“Emmett, wait!” I cried out while chasing after him, but the damage was already done: He was too far ahead of me, and had already caught their attention.

Emmett barreled towards the men and crashed right into one with a massive headbutt, which was obviously not the smart option since he immediately jumped back and with a yell of pain clutched his forehead which had started to bleed, while the man’s mask barely had a scratch on it. I hadn’t expected anything else from Emmett, he had been clearly showing the levels to which his stupidity could rise.

The others which had looked on in shock immediately snapped out of it and attacked Emmett, but luckily I arrived just in time to back him up, casting a huge fireball and slamming it right into a couple of them.

“Intruders!” One of them yelled. “Do not let them inside!”

We then engaged into battle with them, exchanging various spells, but they managed to keep us at bay.

“Damn it!” I yelled in frustration. “We’re getting nowhere like this.”

“You forgot me!” A voice yelled from above, I looked up to see Louise slamming down into the men with her right fist and completely pounding half of them while a few others managed to dodge her strike.

“Nice one, Louise!” Emmett shouted.

“Shut the fuck up!” She responded, clearly not happy with the stunt he’d just pulled moments earlier which had unexpectedly dragged us into this sudden battle.

One of the masked men courageously stood up to Louise only to get instantly clobbered, she was by far the strongest person here physically, so if they wanted to have even a prayer of a chance at stopping her, it would have to be from distance. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the time to think up a plan so they just mindlessly attacked her and got wrecked as usual.

Louise stood among the unconscious corpses and looked back at us with a smirk.

“Well? No thanks for saving your asses?”

“Th-Thanks…” The two of us muttered.

“Remind me never to piss her off ever again.” Emmett whispered to me.

Louise then punched the gate causing it to fall over, leaving us a clear path to the main door.

“Lets go.” She started, with us quickly following behind her, reversing the earlier situation.

We made our way forward, but a bunch of masked men popped up from out of thin air and surrounded us.

“What the hell?” Emmett exclaimed. “They just appeared out of absolutely nowhere!”

“A cloaking spell!” Louise explained. “That was smart of them, not gonna lie.”

With Louise among us, we easily managed to wipe them out, only to find another wave had arrived. We did the same two or three more times, but every time more got in our way and forced us to expend more energy.

“Damn it, this is never gonna end!” Louise complained.

“We can’t keep wasting our energy here.” I noted. “That’s what they’re trying to do, they want us to get exhausted here, even if they can’t beat us. And it’s working, we can’t beat all of them, there’s hundreds, if not thousands!”

“What do we do?” Louise asked.

“…I’ll stay.”

“What?” Louise turned to Emmett with widened eyes. “You can’t, Emmett! There’s-”

“There’s no time to complain, just go! It’s better than all three of us getting trapped here! Don’t worry, I won’t die in a place like this.”

Louise nodded hesitantly and grabbed me.

“Wait.” I told her, as I wanted to tell him something. “This is probably the last time we see each other, Emmett. The next time you see this face, it’ll most likely be Arthur. So thanks for everything, and…I’ll miss you.”

“…Same.” He nodded.

“What, no parting joke?” I chuckled.

“Shut up and get away, idiot! This is further proof that you’re a clown!”

I then let Louise drag me towards the door as Emmett held back the hordes of masked men with every possible spell he knew, it reminded me of the zombies except that these people actually felt pain, so Emmett had slightly more success.

“Let’s go!” She said as she kicked the door open, leading into a dark hallway which led three ways.

“What the-Which one’s the way forward?” I asked.

“Easiest way is to just check all three, let’s split up , I’ll take the left and you take the right, if it’s neither we’ll meet up and go through the middle.”

“Well, first of all, I feel like splitting up even further is a bad idea.” I said. “Secondly, isn’t it obviously the middle?”

“Fine, we’ll check the middle one first, if that’s what you want.”

We made our way to the middle one and tried to pry it open, but it was locked tightly.

“Stand aside.” She said, which I complied, and she delivered a stunning kick which would shatter any door…except this one. Not a single dent had been left on it.

“What the…how?” Louise was left in shock, as that was probably the first time that had ever happened to her.

“I, uh, I guess we’re going back to your original plan, since you’re now apparently too weak to kick a single door down.” I teased her.

“Sh-Shut up!”She stuttered with embarrassment.. “L-Let’s just get on with it, I’ll take the left door and you take the right one!”

“Good luck.” I told her as I made my way to the right door. I opened it easily, as it wasn’t locked.

And behind the door, lay a huge room, probably as big as the meeting place if not bigger, and I instantly understood why this room was constructed to be so large.

In the middle of the room lay a creature I’d never expected to see with my own two eyes.

A large, black, Dragon.
