Chapter 40:

Dragon of Doom

Beyond The Void

The dragon immediately spit out black fire, leaving me with barely enough time to dodge.

“Shit!” I muttered, rolling over a couple of times, before getting up and sprinting over to my right as the black flames engulfed the room.

The dragon stopped breathing and then turned it’s head towards me before instantly spitting out yet another blast. I could do nothing but keep going right as my left was now full of flames.

Suddenly I bashed into something: The wall. I had been to preoccupied with the large creature that stood in the middle of the room that I’d forgotten that I was actually in a room, despite how large it was.

The flames nearly reached me but I managed to jump forwards in the nick of time, but a small strand of hair caught fire. I immediately reached up, pulled it out, and threw it into the flames as I didn’t want to take any chances with it.

The Dragon then instantly lunged towards me with a huge claw, I instantly enhanced my legs with pure power and jumped up, avoiding the claw that slammed straight into the wall.

Luckily for me, the dragon’s arm got stuck in the wall it had just destroyed, so I took the opportunity to go on the attack: I dropped down from my jump while conjuring up a massive lightning ball, waiting as much as I could in order to fuel it with more energy. Then, when I was as close as I could to the dragon, it roared and attempted to bite me, which was when I released the bolt right into it’s mouth and leaped away.

As I fell to the floor, I collided on my left arm which immediately flared up with pain. I grabbed it, unable to feel it for the moment, then looked to up to see the dragon roaring furiously: That bolt had clearly done some damage to it.

It’s eyes then immediately locked into me once again as I sprinted off while still clutching my arm, trying to gain some distance. Unfortunately for me, it flew up and landed right in front of me once again, then swung it’s huge tail down on me.

I tried to dodge, but was too slow. Part of the tail hit me right in the stomach, sending me flying to the other side of the room where I crashed right into the other wall then fell to the floor, groaning in pain.

Attempting to get back up, I fell back, unable to conjure up the strength. I then felt danger and looked up to see a massive ball of black flame heading straight towards me. I used up nearly half of my energy reserves and put it into a shield which managed to hold of the ball, but just barely. After deflecting it, the shield instantly shattered, leaving me vulnerable once again, but now I was completely exhausted, almost out of energy.

“You son of a bitch!” I managed to scream, then willed myself back up, refusing to stay down. The dragon answered with a load rour that shook the entire room.

As I weighed my options, trying to think up a plan, the dragon headbutted the floor of the room-yes, headbutted the floor, cracking it wide open and sending pieces of it flying up, including the part I was standing on. The dragon then sent another black fireball towards me.

That was smart. I can’t dodge now, and I can’t conjure up another shield or I’ll be completely out.

I hid behind the large piece of the floor that had flown up with me, but unfortunately that had done almost nothing to quell the damage the fireball did when it connected. I thundered back down and hit the floor hard.

Completely dazed, I once again stood up, but didn’t know what to do to stop it. The dragon still looked fresh and had only taken one hit by me so far which hadn’t seemed to have affected it that much.

I had no choice, I had to pull out my trump card now, even if it was earlier then expected…But I hesitated, thinking maybe I didn’t have to.

I decided to wait patiently for its next move, and surely enough it came. The dragon charged towards me, seemingly uncaring for any move I would make, which would probably be fair enough from what I had shown so far. But that would be the cause of its inevitable downfall.

As smoothly as possible, I conjured up a portal, took out an all too familiar bow which had remained unused since that very first battle, and conjured up arrows. This time, these arrows were not made up of ice, but rather of electricity.

My lightning bolt had failed to tear it apart from the inside, but it’s not like it had done nothing either. Perhaps if I had considered another angle, I could have finished the job back then.

As it finally reached me, I pulled the bow and hit the arrow right into one of its eyes, causing it to roar and stagger backwards.

I immediately let another arrow fly into its second eye socket, completely blinding it. Dark blood poured out from both of its eyes, it then started to breath black flame everywhere since it was blind, so it probably figured that if it sprayed everything randomly it would manage to hit me.

I didn’t allow it to take the time to ravage everything, conjuring up a third arrow and sending it into the dragon’s mouth again now that it was wide open, changing its trajectory using air manipulation, leading it straight into the dragon’s heart, piercing it.

The dragon suddenly burst out into flames, splashing a pool of black blood over the entire room, including me, as I was now drenched with this disgusting liquid.

I fell to the ground and started to breathe heavily, I’d managed to get out of this without using my last resort. Maybe I could rest up a bit before-

Shit, Louise!

I immediately got up and started to run, but then I stopped and looked around the room: It was a dead end. I had known since the start but wanted to double check and make sure since I didn’t have the threat of a dragon looming over me, but just as I suspected there was no door other than the one I’d entered in, and I somehow doubted that there would be a secret passageway in a place like this.

Now that I was done here, I exited the room and made my way towards the other one that Louise had entered.
