Chapter 11:

Accidental Kiss

Strawberries, Cherries, and an Angel's Kiss in Spring

I was so excited! It was the last day before the holidays and I was going to confess to Ichigo! I thought this would be the better option because if her answer is No then I have enough time to choose a different school to go to, but if her answer is Yes, then we have the whole summer to spend time with each other!

I had a different spring in my step as I walked to class, I arrived at Homeroom to see a few of my classmates, but no Ichigo. This was weird as we’re normally the first ones here, maybe she’s stuck in traffic…? Just to be sure I decided to drop a text.

I quickly typed a short message asking where she is and waited… 5 minutes… 10 minutes… I checked and saw that she had read the message. That’s strange because she normally replies quickly, unless she’s asleep or busy she doesn’t take more than a few seconds to reply.

Just then I saw her walking in, she had her head down and was clutching a book to her chest. She moved past everyone and quickly took her bag off placing it on the hook attached to our desks and sat down, the weird thing is she hadn’t acknowledged me at all.

“Ichigo?” I called out.

She finally put her head up and turned to me, the look she gave me was like she was exhausted. Not the ‘I was reading until 5 am’ tired, more like an ‘I am mentally and physically drained’ sort of tired. She looked quite sick.

“Hi,” I smiled.

Her smile faded briefly and she stared into space for a few seconds, she had a lot on her mind.

“Ichigo,” I called out her name again.

“Yes?” she asked, that smile returning.

“Are you okay? You spaced out a little,” I chuckled.

“Oh,” she muttered, softly.

I scooted my chair closer and leaned in, reaching over I held her chin between my thumb and forefinger, gently turning her head so she was facing me.

“What’s wrong, Ichigo?” I asked, concerned.

She opened her mouth to speak but closed it again diverting her eyes, she sighed before finally starting to speak.

“Do… do you want to come to my house this weekend?” she asked.

I could tell it was something else, her mouth was saying one thing but her eyes were saying something completely different. I decided to let it go and keep my suspicions to myself.

“I’d love to,” I chuckled.

A wide grin spread across her face

“Are you sure you’re okay though? You look a little sick,” I asked just to be sure.

She nodded, “Yeah just a little tired, I couldn’t sleep last night.”

By the looks of it, Ichigo, it seems as if you haven’t been able to sleep for weeks!

We continued with our day of being in lessons, taking notes, and skipping the boring parts by using the recorder apps on our phones and reading books. Soon it was time for us to go home.

“What time do you want me there?” I asked.

“After 11 should be fine,” she smiled.

“Okay,” I nodded.

We both went our separate ways and I got home with a huge smile on my face, of course, I went home and told my brother about it who was just as excited as I was, if not more.

The day arrived for when I was supposed to go over to Ichigo’s and I had already prepared a gift basket for her parents. It wasn’t as pretty as the one that Ichigo had made since she had added bows and other little decorations on the basket itself but it’s the thought that counts right?

The outfit that I had chosen was casual but also made me feel good, so I wore dark green cargo pants, a dark grey oversized t-shirt, and white trainers, on my fingers were rings and a chain bracelet which looked like it would fall off my hand when I drop my arms. My hair was in its usual hairstyle which is a ‘Comb over’ since I’ve ditched the messy look for good.

I got to Ichigo’s house and it wasn’t as big as mine it was charming and cosy. I walked up to the doorbell and rang it. I cupped my hand over my mouth and exhaled before smelling, I had already had some gum on the way over I just wanted to be extra, double, triple sure my breath was fine.

I heard footsteps before a click, the door opened revealing Ichigo in an oversized hoodie with leggings, on her feet were fluffy slippers in the shape of boots, and her hair was up in a ponytail.

“Hi,” she smiled.

“Hey,” I smiled back.

She stepped back, holding to door wider allowing me to step inside, as I glanced around the interior of the house I was in awe. It was smaller than my house, which explains why Ichigo was surprised when she came over to mine, but this was a house I wouldn’t mind living in myself.

“My parents won’t be home until evening, so we’ve got the whole day,” she chuckled.

I decided to play a little joke on her and smirked, “Why what are you planning to do?"

She looked at me and I sent her a slight wink, I watched as her eyes widened and she quickly shook her head.

“No! No! I didn’t mean anything like… that.” She blushed.

I stifled a smile and pegged her with a questioning look, “Oh? Then what did you mean?”

She clicked her tongue and slightly stomped her right foot while also folding her arms, “You know what I mean!”

I laughed before hearing another set of footsteps, “Who was at the… who’s that?” a young girl who looked similar to Ichigo asked her while pointing at me.

“Sara, don’t be rude! And that’s my friend Kyo,” she told her.

“Ohhh THAT’S Kyo? The one that you won’t…” The rest of her words were muffled as Ichigo, who sped as quickly as lightning towards her, clamped her mouth shut with her hand.

“Sara, why don’t you go and chill in your room, Kyo we can go in the living room,” she told me.

“Okay,” Ichigo’s sister, Sara, managed to say before Ichigo took her hand off of her mouth.

“Have fun Netflix and chilling,” she quickly told us before dashing to her room.

Ichigo’s face turned bright red before she yelled, “You’re 11 how do you know what that is?!”

“Yeah, both you sisters are alike,” I mumbled.

“I heard that,” Ichigo turned towards me narrowing her eyes.

I gulped before Ichigo gave me a tour of the house, last place was her bedroom, she opened the door and I loved the whole aesthetic she was going for. The walls were white, she had not one but two windows- one beside her bed and one opposite side of the door, a desk with a shelf on top with a whole row of different books but all of the same genre- romance. There were posters on top of the desk and a few drawings as well.

“Did you draw them yourself?” I asked, surprised.

Ichigo stood behind my left shoulder and nodded, “Yeah, but they’re not good I know I can do better.”

I gently took a drawing off the wall that was stuck with cello tape and took a closer look, it was a bird perched on a tree with what looked like the moon behind it and a few cherries here and there hanging from the branch.

“Ichigo, it’s so good!” I told her, seriously.

“No, they’re not!” she protested.

“Yes, they are!” I fired back.

She tried to reach for the drawing but I held it high above her head.

“Okay, that’s not funny you know,” she huffed.

“I’ll give it back when you admit that your drawings ARE good!” I shrugged.

“Not going to happen please just give me back my drawing,” she told me.

“Well then you’re not getting it,” I looked down at her.

“Kyo, please just give it back,” she told me.

“You just have to admit it’s good,” I told her.

“Fine, I’ll just get it myself,” she told me.

She tried to jump to get it from my hand but it was too high above her head she couldn’t reach it.

“You are so mean! I thought we were friends,” she pouted.

“We are friends! That’s why I’m doing this to show you how good of an artist you are and how you shouldn’t waste your talents,” I explained.

“I’m not wasting anything! Besides it’s just a hobby,” she placed her hand on her hips.

“Talen, hobby whatever just say ‘I’m good at drawing!’ and I’ll give it to you” I watched as she struggled to get it.

Just then she remembered something and with her leg, she moved the desk chair forward and stood on it, as soon as she did, I quickly moved back but she leaned forward making the chair roll forward and making her fall.

“Hey… what the… watch out!” I managed to say before I fell on my back and Ichigo fell forward. It almost felt like we were falling in slow motion, I felt something soft underneath me and realised I fell on her bed and Ichigo fell on top, but what I didn’t expect to also feel was something soft on my lips.

I looked up to see Ichigo looking at me, I didn’t realise what had happened until her eyes widened and her mouth fell open, the realisation struck me when I realised that as she fell on top of me, her lips brushed against mine.

Footsteps were heard rushing into the room, “What the heck was that noise?” we both turned our heads to see Sara in the doorway.

“Sorry,” she mumbled covering her eyes with her hand.

Ichigo quickly got off of me and stood up, “Sara we…”

“No, it’s okay,” she shook her head stepping back a little.

“Just a piece of advice next time shut your door, I’m too innocent to see or hear whatever you guys were about to do,” she told us before shutting the door.

“What the heck just happened?” Ichigo mumbled to herself.

Shit!
