Chapter 2:

Chapter 2

Fake Eyes

Wren was scrolling through her phone, when her mother called her again.

"Yes, mom?," she said.

"Where are you? Come home, now," she said.

"Why? Is it something important?," she asked.

"Yes, it is. Where's Magnus? Give him the phone," her mother said.

Wren gave the phone to Magnus, who was driving the car they were in.

"Yes, ma'am? What do you mean by that?," he said.

"Yes, yes, I'm taking her there now. Yes, yes, I'll get her to look her best," he said.

"Yes, yes, she'll look extremely pretty," he said.

He gave the phone back to Wren.

"What did she say?," she asked.

"Nothing, ma'am," Magnus said.

"Mister Xu, tell me, please. I need to know," she said, confused.

"Miss Kim, mister Paavalo is coming to see you at home," he said.

"Oh, but what did mom say to you?," she asked.

"I'm taking you to your mom's boutique so that you can get dressed to meet him," he said.

"But aren't I dressed enough? Don't I look good?," she asked, confused.

"Of course, you look good, miss Kim. But, you're going to meet someone who'll marry you later. And it's the boss' order. You have to follow it," he answered.

"Fine. Let's go to the boutique," she said as she sighed.

Wren's mom owned a lot of boutiques. This one was one of the many.

When they were in there, the staff picked their best lavender colored dress for her and did a light eye makeup that Magnus specifically asked for, because Wren did not wear makeup at all. She was too pretty for any makeup. And this eye makeup was just an addition to her beauty.

When they reached home, she saw her mom and the handsome young man talking. He was tall and had light brown hair. He had green eyes. She stared at him for a while because he was so attractive but then went inside to greet him. He stood up as soon as he saw her.

"Hello, Mr. Paavalo," she said.

"Hello, miss Kim. How are you?," he said.

"I'm fine. Thank you. And you?" she said.

"I'm doing great," he said.

She smiled and turned around to go. But, her mom stopped her.

"Wren, sit down. He's here to see you. You have to sit down and talk to him," she said.

So she sat down on the lavish couch on which Jay was sitting, a little farther away from him. She blushed a bit. Meanwhile, he was blushing, too. There was silence in the room but then Magnus came inside and Wren's mom went outside with him. Then, they talked.

"Umm.....hi, once again," he said.

"Hey. How was your flight?," she said.

"Yeah, it was fine. I'm tired," he said.

"I'm sorry that my mom invited you over," she said.

"No, I'm kinda glad that she did. At least, I got to see you," he said.

"What? What do you mean?," she asked, flustered.

"Nothing. I just meant to say that it's been so long since I saw you. We met some two years ago, you know, so, yeah," he said, smiling.

"Yeah, I..I get it. But, um, where are you gonna stay? I'm pretty sure you don't have a house here, right?," she said.

"Actually, I'm staying here," he said.

"What?!," she asked.

"Yeah. Did I shock you? I'm sorry," he said, laughing.

"No. I mean, why would you? You can stay at a hotel. I don't mean it in an offending way, though," she said.

"Oh, no. Actually, I can't speak Korean and you speak Italian and you're super fluent in english. I mean, your full household is, so your mom asked me to stay here. Is it not fine with you?," he said.

"No. I mean, yes, it is. But, Jay, my mom and me get into arguments a lot. Will you be able to bear us fighting?," she said.

"Yes, of course, Wren. I can do that. I always have patients arguing with me. So, it's all okay. And, I'm only staying for a month so it won't be that much of a hassle," he said and smiled.

Wren nodded.

"Umm, why are you even here? I mean, are you here on vacation?," she asked.

"Oh, no. I'm here to check up on a patient. There's a psychologist here, Mr. Min. He has a cousin who's mentally ill and neurology is required in his treatment. So I'm here for a month to check up on him. That patient lived in Milan earlier but when he recovered, we sent him back but now it's been two months since he's been back to his ill self. So, I'm here for that reason," he said.

"Oh, you're gonna be busy then, right?," she asked.

"Yeah, I guess so. What about you? Are you doing good with your job?," he said.

"Yeah. I just got into a argument with an idiot at the museum. I got my bag swapped with him somehow. I hope I don't see him again," she said.

Jay chuckled at that.

"What's so funny?," she asked, blushing.

"The way you said it, that's funny," he said.

"Shut up," she said.

She rolled her eyes. He laughed at that, too. He was actually very charming. Wren just noticed that.

Magnus came inside and asked Wren and Jay to come outside to the dining table to have lunch. So, they left. Wren's mom was already there, waiting for them.

The people were quiet at lunch and the lunch was yummy. After lunch, Wren's mom asked her to show Jay the house so they went to stroll around the house. Wren's mom had left for a bit because she had a urgent piece of work to attend to.

Wren showed Jay his room and he freshened up a bit by a shower and by the time he was done, Wren had changed out of her dress, too. So then, they were dressed in some comfy pajamas when they were strolling around the house.

They were enjoying each other's company and then Wren made coffee for both of them while they were in the kitchen. They strolled in the garden for a while, and then they sat down on the lawn chairs.

"This is just a thought but your job seems really interesting," Wren said.

"Really? I'm glad you like it," Jay said.

"I like it but medical is not for me. I just can't stand the disgusting smell of blood and medicine," she said, disgusted.

"I know how you feel. It sure is very gross. But, it's fun. Do you wanna continue hearing about the patient that I mentioned earlier?," he said.

"Yeah, why not?," she said.

"Please don't think that I have nothing else to talk about. I actually don't know what to say. So, I wanna talk about this patient," he said, laughing.

"Yeah, I totally get it. You can talk," she said, smiling.

"So, this patient was really smart before he lost his mind. He was some music producer, the same as he is now. His parents didn't like his job that much. That is what triggered his mass anxiety, which later got him to lose his mind. He talked dumb in Milan. Every single thing he ever said was completely stupid. It was as if he was in love with someone. Oh, in fact, his girlfriend was the one who brought him to the hospital. She left Milan later," he said.

"So he was in love with someone? Wow!," she said.

"Yeah, that was the only thing that kept him alive till now. He loved that woman and wanted to see her. That is what helped him recover but seems like he's back to his ill health now," he said.

"Why? Why is his mental health bad again?," she asked, confused.

"As I said, he was in love. That woman was Korean. I think he couldn't see her when he came back to Korea or something else might've happened," he answered.

"That's sad. But what does neurology have to do with this?," she said.

"He needs a brain surgery," he said.

"What?! But you're not a brain surgeon. You're just here to see how he's doing?!," she asked, shocked.

"Yes, his emotions are out of control. It's not like they're sure they'll be able to get his emotions under control but a part of his brain would be gone," he said.

"What? I don't get it!," she said.

"Of course, you don't. Let's go inside now. My coffee's finished," he said, laughing.
