Chapter 9:

Cara's life (1)

Playing With Fire

"Kole, you know that kid is mine, right?," said Nathaniel Pratt.

"Yeah, yeah. You're talking like I don't know. Of course, this baby's gonna be Jason's wife when she grows up," said David Kole, a man with black hair and light brown eyes.

Cara's mother, Sydney, a beautiful woman with dark hair and dark eyes, held the baby in her arms. The baby was 3 months old. Her father was a cruel man who only cared about his own life.

"Do you have any objections, Mrs. Kole?," Nathaniel asked Cara's mother.

She shaked her head. Nathaniel smiled on that.

"She's not talking to me, Kole," Nathaniel said to David.

"You know she doesn't talk that much. Don't worry," David said.

David shot his wife an angry look.

"What the fuck is your problem?! Couldn't you just have answered his question?!," David said as he slapped his wife when they got home from the dinner the Pratt family had hosted for them.

But Sydney didn't answer.

"Say something for once! You make it seem like I've forced you to marry me when you're the one who loved me!," he said and slapped her again.

Their son, Shane, who was old enough to understand what was happening, was standing outside the living room and listening to whatever was happening inside. His cousin, Melissa, was standing with him.

"Mel, should I stop them?," Shane asked his cousin.

"I don't think so. You shouldn't go," she said as she heard David slap Sydney again.

Shane was furious.

"I can't take it! I'm gonna stop him!," he said and barged into the room.

"Stop hitting her!," he yelled and quickly ran to his mother's aid.

His mother's face was red and he gently caressed it.

"Mom, are you okay?," he asked with tears in his eyes.

His mom didn't answer.

He quickly pulled her into a hug.

"Mel, get the ice from the fridge! Mom's not in good condition!," he said.

Melissa quickly ran to the kitchen and got the ice. Shane gently iced his mother's face. His father went outside.

Sydney noticed that David was not in the room anymore and started to get anxious.

"Shane, where's your dad?!," she said and pushed Shane away.

She ran to Cara's room. She saw Cara in David's arms.

"Let go of her! You're not her father if you plan her wedding when she's just a baby!," she yelled.

"Now you talk?! Listen up, Sydney. This baby is my property! You don't have a say in this matter at all! I will do whatever I want with this baby!," he said.

"No! Please don't ruin her life like you ruined mine! Please send her to an orphanage but don't keep her here! She's not your toy like I've been!," she begged.

"Oh, didn't you love me?! You told me you loved me and that is why you married me and had these kids with me! Was that a lie, Sydney?! Tell me!," he said.

"No! No! I still love you! I love you, David! If you love me, please end my suffering by not ruining Cara's future! I'm begging you, David! Please!," she said.

"I told you. If you'd be able to kill this baby till she's 2 months old, I won't mess with you or any of your lives anymore. I'd stop trying to have kids with you. I'd send you all to some other state. But, no! That stupid child that your sister bore and left in this world had to just go and fuck it all up! She just had to go and stop you all of the times you tried to kill Cara! 'No! Please! Please don't kill Cara! She's just a baby. It's not her fault'. Of course, it's not her fucking fault she was born into this world! It's mine! And it's your sister's fault that bitchy kid was ever born! I'm going to go kill that brat that fucked up my chances to have another wife! She's the root of the problem!," he said.

He put Cara back in her cot and went outside with his loaded gun in his hand.

Melissa was outside with Shane. David grabbed Melissa by the collar of her shirt and threw her against the wall.

"Fucking bitch! You ruined my life! You should've just let Cara die!," he said.

Then he fired the bullet. There was a lound noise.

But whom he had shot was not his niece. It was his wife, Sydney Kole, who had jumped in front of Melissa to save her from dying.

The bullet had went straight through her heart. She coughed up blood and died on the spot.

The children in the room were shocked by the event that had just taken place in the room. Shane quickly ran to the body and caressed his mother's face.

"Mel, it's the bruises on her face! They're hurting her! Where's the ice?! Get the ice!," he said as he cried.

Melissa couldn't move as she saw the cold lifeless pupils of her aunt stare into her eyes.

"Mel, get the ice! She's not waking up! We have to do something!," Shane yelled.

"Shane, she's dead! There's no life left in her now," she said and sunked on the ground.

"No, you're lying! She's alive! She's alive! That is why the blood won't stop rushing out of her heart! Her blood's flowing! She's alive! Mom, please wake up! Talk to me!," he said.

"Grow up, Shane! Auntie's dead! Blood flows out of dead people, too! She's not gonna talk to you! She's dead, Shane! She's dead!," Melissa said, angry.

"No! Mom!," Shane cried as he hugged his mom's corpse.

"I love you, Mom. Please talk to me! I can't live in this place without you! Mom, please come back! Mom!," he cried.

His mother's blood had stained his whole face as he hugged her corpse.
