Chapter 10:

The Starry Night: Part One

The Letters That Heaven Sent

The beach was about twenty minutes away from home. Everyone met at my house, and we were about ready to leave. It's going to be a one-week trip. Everyone was excited. Dad came, and then we took our leave. We had to take all the necessary cooking equipment. For staying, Sato-San had a friend there and asked him to let them stay at his place. It was a big house, so we would all fit in. As for clothing, the ladies got a whitesummer dress for the waitress while the boys got a beach shirt, and personally, the shorts fashion is something that doesn't suit me, so there is a pant option for me. Kuro went with the shorts. "Is everyone in?" Dad asked. "Yes, Arata-san. Everyone is in. Boss said. "By the way, Arata-San, what should we do about the ingredients? Are there any stores nearby?" "There are many around the beach, and they are very fresh." "That's amazing! Our chef is very talented. I guess he will be making a new limited-time summer special dish." "You don't have any ideas in mind, boss? Sato-san said. "I manage the sales and the restaurant; the cooking is your department, as is the menu." "Just say you are too lazy to work (Scoofs)," Sato-san said. "Just say you are uncreative (scoofs). Boss said. This is not rivalry; it seems more like a couple fighting. Soon we arrived at the beach. It was beautiful. It was my first time at the beach. Senpai stood beside me and just glanced at her face; she was stunned too. We didn't have much time before the crowd started to come. Setting everything up quickly, Sato-san and Boss went grocery shopping. We all had to dress up, so we went to the changing rooms. Dad went away to meet Mom and then brought her over. We changed, went out, and started to clean the restaurant. Everything was set up. The lighting was hung up, the tables were set up fine, and the clothing was good too. Senpai arrived along with Kobayashi-san. The dress she got looked beautiful on her. Kobayashi-san looked great as well. Kuro was flabbergasted after seeing Kobayashi-san. The boss and Sato-san arrived with the groceries. They said they would be making something new. They go and get changed as well. No one will be wearing swimsuits and stuff because everyone except the boss, Sato-san, and Kuro have thalassophobia. In other words, fear of huge amounts of water They will be swimming later. Soon the crowd started becoming huge, and we all started working on it. This place now feels like a café. Everyone was working happily. Dad came with Mom to the café, and I served them. She was really happy to see me work hard. Soon they went to sit in the shade beside the café. We all worked till four in the late afternoon. There were no breaks because there were just not enough staff members. Everything was over, and everyone loved the food. This time, there was sure to be a huge crowd at the cafe. We finished our lunch, and everyone went away to play. Mom and dad weren't in the shade; Kuro, the boss and Sato-san, as expected, went swimming. They were excellent swimmers. Senpai was with her siblings and mom. They all looked happy, which satisfied me. I didn't really have any job to do, so I took out a book, sat on the sofa,  and just went on reading. Senpai, along with her siblings, were coming towards me. "Inoue oni! Come on, let's play in the water!" They, too, are not afraid of the water. "Right now? It's very cold, you know; we will get sick if we stay out longer." "Not to worry,Inouee Oni. I have a very good immune system." They were all ready to take me into the water. Their eyes were glowing, wanting to play with me but hesitant about what to do. Senpai came along. "Now you don't want to break up the fragile heart of theirs. Even I have water, but how about we take it out together? We will not be so tensed then." I got a look at her, and she too had glowing eyes. Now there's more reason not to say no. I took a deep breath. "(Sigh) Okay, senpai, let's go." "Really! Okay, you two, let's go." We played in the water but were really thankful to God that they didn't want to swim. Water only came to my thighs at best. We played for an hour in the water and then built some castles. Mom was still there and gave us all drinks to hydrate, and to be honest, it was one of the best days of my life. Seeing everyone happy and feeling satisfied We all went to the house of Sato-san's friend. It was really huge. He was going away for a week due to some business. He gave us the keys to it. We went in, settled in, and ate dinner. Now, I can't sleep. The night sky was looking beautiful, so I decided to go out for a walk. There was a shop nearby with amazing cameras. My pockets were full, and the night was beautiful. I went into the store and got a camera. The photos came out really well. I walked down the beach, continuing to take photos. This was really refreshing. It's one in the morning, and here I am taking pictures. After some time of taking pictures, it was cold, so I just decided to sit down on the moist sand. Looking at the sky. Appreciating and making the most of the moment Suddenly, a hand touched my shoulder. Since the area was known to be pretty safe and I was tired and all, I just glanced to see who it was. It was Senpai. "What are you doing out so late, Arata-kun?" "I couldn't sleep. So I just went on a walk. I found that Camara shop, and so I got a camera at a very reasonable price. I also took some photos of the sky. Wanna look? "Of course, I would love to. Wow! Those are some amazing shots." "What are you doing so late, Senpai?" "I couldn't sleep—then I saw the night sky—decided to just take a walk, and then I saw you." She got some ice cream, and we ate and were just lying down on the sand. Say, Arata-kun, when do you think we will get our emotions back? Is it even possible that we just lost them? Or is it just a play of our minds?" "Not really sure, senpai. Everyone has their ups and downs. These ups and downs make us who we are. It is possible to lose them, but it is not permanent, or so I think. Someone who doesn't even have an ounce of it surely is someone to pity. We at least have kindness in us. We have one of the most major emotions with us." "So we are talking philosophy now." "You asked for it, and by the way, we are doing a major in literature." Say, Arata-kun, what will you do once you get to experience emotions again? "I don't know, senpai; time will tell it all." "What will you do, senpai?" "I too don't know; it's like a tough question out of nowhere asking a fool. I guess I will go with time too." "So am I a fool here?" "You are somewhat smart, so you will get it."She said this while giggling and smiling. She was showing a side of herself that she probably never shows to anyone. "Weird that we are just going in a loop. "I know right! Senpai said. "How about you take some pictures of me? The night is starry, the wind is good, and the lights are just perfect." I took the camera out, adjusted everything, and just kept on clicking. It really was one of the best days of my life. Soon we finished, and she was just enjoying and laughing while playing. She then took the camera out once more, and this time, it was a genuine smile on her face. I wished that time could stop so that this moment could last a little longer.
