Memories (Part 2)

It’s early in the morning, and I’m back standing in front of Grandpa’s room.

“…”

On my tray, I have a banana porridge that Yuuma made. I’m honestly surprised that fruits can be used as porridges since I’ve always assumed that they’d taste weird, but this porridge is surprisingly really good, so I asked him if he could make one more for Grandpa.

Dad initially planned to give this food to Grandpa himself, but I was able to convince him to let me do it.

“It’s the only way after all…”

I clench my tray with every strength I have, making it shake slightly. I then hold the tray with my right hand and knock with my left.

“…Grandpa?”

No response was expected.

“Excuse mee…”

I slowly open the door, the dimly lit room slowly engulfing my existence.

On the side of his bed, there is only a single glass of water this time that looks untouched.

“Haah…”

I slowly walk over to Grandpa’s bed and put the tray on top of the table. I then placed my hand on his body and shook it.

“Hey Grandpa… It’s already morning…” I said as I continuously shook his oddly cold body.

“…?”

Why is his body so cold? This forest provided enough magical energy to retain our desired heat, so why?

“…Grandpa?”

I try to pull him over to me. Normally when I do this, his body would be hard to move, but there won’t be much resistance. However, for some reason, his body is extremely heavy as if tons of bricks were put inside of him.

“…There’s no way… right?” I continuously move his body, “Grandpa…? Hey, Grandpa… Grandpa… Hey Grandpa!”

After nudging his body over and over again, eventually, his body came over to my side, in which Grandpa still has his eyes shut, but his mouth completely agape.

“…Grandpa?”

I slowly bring my right hand over his mouth until I hover over it. I wait for six seconds, only to realize that there isn’t a sign of breath coming out of him.

“…”

I fell to my knees, looking at Grandpa’s sleeping face.

Grandpa…? Don’t tell me that you’re…
