Chapter 65:
Will the worthless salaryman find his worth in another world?
Chapter 65
New toys to play with and testing them out
I stopped under a relatively safe tree to check out everything that I will be able to use now from all my loot with the additional added knowledge of activating keyword.
The A rank wands and grimoires are still useless. The augmented cloaks and dresses that augment the ancient type magic are also the same.
The things I can use for now are Life detection bracelet and shadow movement bracelet.
Since both the bracelets are quite wide and cover very large part of my wrist I wore them on left and right hand separately.
I also have the lucky charm bracelet that I got from Milli chan as a protective charm but since it’s just a small threaded bracelet and it can be tied easily on my left hand along with other bracelet.
I also checked some C and D rank magic wands I collected from the vampires. There were 2 with wind blade magic, one pit formation and one with rock spikes.
One that Roland (the 1st vampire I encountered who was wearing the watch) was using was iron javelins, which is a C rank magic wand and Mark Zexos (probably one of the 3 powerful underlings of Charlotte’s uncle) that I recently killed in Mino cave was using poison rain wand which is an area effect magic wand and is B rank.
Thankfully none of the vampires got the chance to use any of their wands because most of them were finished with my devious schemes or few shots of rock bullet and gamma beam.
So thankfully I was never at the receiving end of these magic wands. But now I now the operating keywords for these wands and unlike the A rank wands these work just fine.
The last thing that I acquired was Movement magic bracelet with Shadow movement magic that Roland was wearing.
Of course he did not get to use it too and it too works perfectly fine. After activating I feel like I was moving like a shadow.
Although more accurate description would only be possible from other’s perspective but I could tell that this will take my stealth to another level.
So now I can detect others as well as approach them easily through my shadow movement.
I tested the wands and magic that I can use now. The wind blade is simple slash of transparent wind and is not that powerful.
It can cause some minor wounds on skin and that’s it. But what is impressive is that their cool down is only 4 second despite being D rank magic wands.
So basically I can alternatively fire them at an interval of 2 seconds since I have 2 of them.
The pit formation is also a D rank magic wand that forms a simple 4-meter-deep pit of 1 meter diameter where it is fired.
The range is only 15 meters though and the cool down is also 5 seconds.
The rock spikes magic produces spikes of rock on the ground of diameter 1 and range is 30 meters. It’s a C rank magic wand and the cool down is 5 second.
The ‘Iron javelins’ is similar to rock bullet but the speed of javelins is slow and you have to fire them in a parabola trajectory to hit the target.
But the thing that makes it better is that one attack fires group of 10 javelins. Moreover the range is 300 meters and cool down is 4 second. As expected of a C rank wand.
The last one is Poison rain and this is a wide area magic attack. It causes poisonous rain to fall in an area of 10 meters square.
I need to be careful to get out of its range after firing otherwise I could end up getting engulfed as well. I launched it on some trees a few distance away and after about 5 second, violet colored droplets started falling in that area.
After the droplets touched the plants, they started to wilt and corrode. So the poison seemed quite dangerous.
The range is 200 meters and cool down is 10 second. But what makes it B rank is that the poison is quite potent and it continues to fall for about 10 minutes.
After it was over, everything turned charred black and wilted.
Next I needed to find a way to use these without having to take them out again and again. But the poison rain is very dangerous so I kept it inside my item box.
The plan I came up with to utilize these wands was very simple. I placed them in between my magic bracelets and hand.
In that way I could just point my hand in that direction, move my mana a little and chant the spell. Since the spell is different for even the 2 same wind slash wand, there was no chance of misfiring wrong one.
I placed one wind slash, rock bullet and rock spikes on right hand and 2nd wind slash, iron javelins and pit formation on left hand.
I kept Gamma beam and poison rain in reserve in my item box. Now I just needed to keep in mind the cool downs and chants of different wands, to use them effectively in heated battle.
But from what I can feel, my mind in this body works very efficiently. It can multitask and has very good memory, so I think I can use this tactic of loading wands on my hand very well.
Also I can use my magic bracelets without any problem too. Moreover, I can use my sword and shield in my palm without any problem.
The only downside is that since I get wounded so easily, I may end up destroying my wands by taking a hit. But I would still have 2 very best wands at disposal in reserve.
I will try this arrangement while fighting the nearest colony of monsters and experiment a few things before heading towards the next vampire hideout.
Now that I am so near the hideouts, I think I need to practice this combat style first and then confront the enemy.
I have a feeling that the next few fights will be very rough and heated. So it’s better for me to be even more prepared.
First I found a group of 20 orcs that were eating some elephant like animal which had 4 tusks.
These were the perfect test subjects and according to my life detection, there was no huge life sign nearby. So I could fight with them without attracting attention of any dangerous monster.
First I took out a sword and shield. Now I have my melee weapons and 6 magic attacks at ready.
I also have the help of life detection and shadow movement. But I decided to fight guns blazing this time.
I undid my ‘conceal’ and showed up in front of the orcs. The orcs saw me and started screaming and ready their weapons.
I opened my attack with two wind slashes from right and left hand. After the Orcs were enraged they started running towards me in a group.
I fired iron javelins on the back ones and opened a pit under the ones in front and set up rock rock spikes attack at the bottom of pit. These two literally form very good combo attack.
There were still 10 orcs remaining that avoided the pit and javelins and reached close to me.
I fired a rock bullet on its head and ready myself for the battle. Now will be the true test of my multitasking brain.
I started fighting the orcs with sword and shield while waiting for the cooldowns.
I had also equipped myself with a shield at my back for extra protection. But even then since there were so many orcs, I got hit by their weapons at various places.
Still I finished two with my sword and fired wind slashes on the nearest orcs. While fighting I was getting ganged up and beaten quite badly.
Maybe I should not have fired magic all at once. I should have kept at least 2 second gap between each magic so that I could use them alternatively. Now all of them are on cool down at the same time.
Since things were starting to get south, I activated shadow movement and after firing iron javelins on 4 orcs to my right, I decided to run away.
The orcs got skewered and I got my chance to escape.
There were still 7 orcs chasing me and not all the orcs were dead with first attacks so there were others who were getting up.
I used pit formation and rock spikes combo again on chasing Orcs and was able to kill them. Then I took out potions and drank them.
After that I went around finishing the Orcs that were left. Although I achieved victory, it was far from the perfect result I wanted. I need to make some changes in my fighting style.
I practiced on a few groups of monster after that and optimized my fighting style to be able to at least easily handle a group of 20 monsters of D class.
I then fought a group of 5 C class Ogres, which was a very tough fight and I had to run a few times and use my Gamma beam wand too in addition to other wands.
But with some practice I got good at handling atleast 3 C class monsters without using my stealth and finishing them off.
After that I travelled and reached the next hideout. This was again a dungeon type hideout probably because I could see the mana being sucked rapidly with spirit eyes.
The entrance was like a big burrow on a mud mound. There was no gate but the entrance was guarded by 2 gargoyles.
This is the first time I am seeing these type of monsters. These are B class monsters that have wings and they seem to be good at magic as their highest stat is their MP.
They are level 62 and their MP is around 320. I definitely cannot handle them head on.
I also did life detection but my life detection failed to sense anything in the dungeon.
This was maybe because the whole dungeon is considered as living and it makes it difficult to sense life within another living thing.
Dungeons are basically big chunk of mana that developed consciousness somehow. How it develops I don’t know.
I formed my plan to kill those Gargoyles without making too much fuss. First I activated my shadow movement along with my ‘conceal’ and moved a little close to them.
Since they did not respond to me, that meant that this bracelet magic works quite good.
I formed a pit beneath the gargoyles. Since it happened so suddenly, they did not get the time to fly and fell in it.
As soon as they entered the pit, I formed rock spikes on the side of the hole making its entrance closed with the spikes.
I started running close to the pit to attack but as soon as I got close, the spikes were blown away and two gargoyles flew out with great speed into the sky.
I was thankfully still hidden by shadow movement and conceal so maybe they did not detect me yet and they started circling around the area.
Honestly, I can enter the dungeon as it is but I would have a problem while returning and also if there are some prisoners inside I would need to make sure a safe path is secured for them, so I have to kill them somehow.
Although I cannot see the skills or the magic they can use but from the game knowledge my guess is that they can use earth magic, some kind of mind magic and can maybe petrify anyone who touches them.
It’s just a guess though. They are also carrying tridents so I also need to watch out for that. Moreover they are probably resistant to poison so poison rain is also out.
I hid behind the trees and bushes and launched iron javelins at them as I was not sure if a single rock bullet could hit them.
The 10 javelins flew in parabola arc and rained on the two flying gargoyles. But only one of the gargoyle got hit by 2 of the javelins.
Moreover it did not seem to have caused much damage at all since they passed by just touching it.
Apparently these gargoyles were very fast and good at dodging. They are just a pain in ass at this point.
The gargoyles came flying in formation towards the area from where I had fired my javelins.
They hovered near me and opened their mouth to do a sonic wave type sound attack.
The sound was so loud that I had to close my ears very tightly to save my ear drums.
Thankfully though I had already moved from that place and relocated myself behind another bush.
