Chapter 27:

Case Closed

The Marionettist

Today started in an unusual way, Marcel woke up Patricia with few packages. The content was full of dresses and shoes in her size and mainly... style. No "sweet candy" waste. Like hurray, she took it as a nice gesture.

"I want you to feel the best and be happy here with me. It's certainly not my intention to torture you with those colorful dresses, I just didn't have these and they took a long time to deliver. I hope you like these things."

He did his last homework, which was about Patricia, and ranked with an A+. Later, he led her into the kitchen again without a chain to cook with him. With one eye, he followed her and checked so that the incident with the tenderizer wouldn't happen again.

Patricia got some taste for lemon chicken, so she marinated the upper chicken thighs in two lemons and a pinch of salt for half an hour in the refrigerator. She preheated the oven to 250 degrees Celsius.
Then she took out the meat, which had become tender, and spread it on the baking sheet smeared with olive oil, placing small cubes of butter in between. She seasoned it with turmeric, cayenne pepper, basil, salt and marjoram.
She poured it all over with the remaining lemon juice and added a little bit of water, into which she threw a clove or two of garlic cloves and mixed it.
Finally, she put it inside the oven and after ten minutes, she reduced the temperature to 180 degrees and three-quarters of an hour, checking the oven occasionally and pouring the sauce over the meat. In the meantime, she prepared plain rice.

They both enjoyed lunch sitting across from each other. Neither of them had spoken because they were stuffing their faces with their food. During the day, Marcel not only enjoyed the food, but also the atmosphere of the home environment and the presence of a "loved" person.

The next morning was quiet in Patricia's cave prison, but something unexpected happened over lunch. Marcel got down on one knee and presented her with a ring. "Will you marry me?" She was shocked, she tried to refuse him so that he wouldn't get mad. "I can't marry you. I know your longing for love, but I'm not the one for you. After all, I love Marek!”

Tormented by the rejection and heartbreak, he became crazy. He grabbed her by the shoulders and dragged her to the iron chair on the bottom floor of the dollhouse. He tied her all up so that she wouldn't do something stupid.

“Now I'll go and get rid of that bastard. Wait for me, my love." Patricia became upset. "Not! NO!” He ran to the surface to fulfill his promise. She had to get out of here! She began to look around. Nothing was close enough and the chair was welded to the ground.

The thought that he could kill Marek was etched in her brain. She gripped the arms of the chair. She felt something... a nail! She was trying to pull it out. She tried to free the nail from the handle. Despite the fact that she cut her fingers, she continued picking on it.

After fifteen minutes she was successful and managed to pull the nail out. With the other hand, she jabbed it into the lock on the opposite side. She was skilled enough to open her shackles. She ran to the door which was closed.

How could she unlock it? She noticed something that looked like a rock next to them in between some plastic plants. The stone was artificial. She just picked it up and turned it over. The guy is a good psycho and a total idiot. He literally played house. It was a slap in the face of reality. A key was taped to the underside of that stone.

She shot up the stairs and fumbled to find the revolving door. She felt like she was in some kind of labyrinth, otherwise, it cannot be described. She ended up back in that tattered doll room. She ran out of the room onto the balcony, jumped over a nearby tree, and climbed down it.

It wasn't that far from the police station. The paradox is that the victims and the killer were in such close proximity to the law. The "darkest place" is under the lamp, so she aimed it right there. She ran all the way until she was out of breath.

The door flew open. The police were shocked and looked at her like at a ghost. She ran into Marek's office through a narrow corridor, it was empty, and she immediately asked where he was. They revealed that he left on the trail of another kidnapping.

She slammed both fists on the table out of frustration. The policemen got scared. "We have to find him! Call him! Now!” One of the startled policemen listened to her without hesitation, and they all went to the dollhouse. She knew Marcel would want to lure Marek over there.

On the way to the mansion, they passed a strange limousine. There seemed to be three people sitting in the back. It was impossible to recognize who was sitting in it, especially through the smoky glass. They overturned the police vehicle and cut them off across the road.

Patricia flew out of the car and headed for the limousine. She opened the door wide. It was Mrs. Schmitt, and two life-sized mannequins were seated next to her. The exact same ones that were stolen from Mrs. Nerudova. Her son Alexander was not inside and neither was Marcel.

She slammed the door and ordered the vehicle to be navigated straight to the police station and that woman into the holding cell. She rushed into the house by running. The police had some problems with Mrs. Schmitt's limousine and her driver.

When she finally reached the house, all she could hear was the girl's scream. She had an urge to save her. Patricia ran inside and straight up the stairs. She opened the door to the cursed room and saw Alexander kneeling over the girl.

He noticed Patricia and attacked her. He somehow remembered who she was. They began to haggle. He pushed her out of the room. Alexander slammed her against the wall and she crumpled down. There was a table next to her, so she reached up for something lying on it to defend herself.

She grabbed a pair of scissors and jabbed them into his palm as he was about to slap her. He pulled it back with a huge scream from pain. He grabbed her by the shirt with his good hand, twisted her, and threw her into the room.

He pulled the scissors out of his hand and swung them overhead with a madman's expression on his face. He was ready to stab her, here and now. Patricia, sitting on the ground, only managed to raise her hand in defense... then it happened.

The bullet penetrated Alexander's body. Drops of blood scattered around and some ended up on Patricia as well. Alexander fell to the ground. The one who shot him could only be one. Patricia raised her eyes to the face of the person who saved her.

To her dismay, it was Marcel. "I told you that you are mine. I won't let anyone take you away from me. I love you more than anyone in my family. I will sacrifice them anytime. You will become my wife and we will be happy together.”

Out of nowhere, someone hit him with the handle of a gun. Marek came as a knight in shining armor to save his beloved from a madman. But Marcel was not easy to defeat. He jumped after Marek and his weapon fell to the ground. They started struggling around.

Patricia reached for the gun and put it to Marcel's head. He froze and released his grip on Marek. Marcel raised his hands. "Do it! Kill me! End my miserable life!" While Marek was handcuffing him, Patricia just shook her head saying no.

"No. You've saved my life, twice... and you've always been nice and kind of welcoming to me, well... except for the few times you've been obnoxiously "cuddly", so let's just say I'm paying you back. I don't want to owe you anything."

The rest of the cops finally showed up as they ran into the house and scooped Marcel into the police car. He was seated right next to his mother. The lady was a little scared and shocked because she didn't remember who he was.

Marcel stuck his head out of the car window. “I knew you loved me! I'll wait until I get out of prison and then I'll marry you. And you... dude, take good care of her for now until I'm free again."

Marek was pissed off by what he heard, so for the first time he behaved unprofessionally. He silenced Marcel with a punch. The police cars left and Patricia fell into Marek's arms and kissed him. They were both happy that they could finally close this damn case.
