Chapter 14:

spilled beans

Coffee, sugar and love

I went to the café yesterday but was surprised to find the café closed. I wondered why Luca would have texted me to come if the café was closed. As I held my resignation letter tight while riding off on my bike, I wondered if it was some sort of prank. I didn't know what was going on, but I had a feeling that something was not quite right.

After considering Carol's advice, I decided not to work here anymore. Besides, there was no reason for me to stay. It would only take a few days or months before they figured out that I was not Errol that they thought they hired. It was better to let go of something that wasn't really for me.

With a sense of freedom and relief, I began to look for other job opportunities. I knew that there were many great things ahead for me, and that leaving this job was the right decision. I was ready to move on from the past and find a better future for myself.

I arrived at the café in search of customers and was surprised to find the place deserted. I saw Luca sitting at the counter area, his expression serious.

"I've been waiting for you, Kennedy," he said, the severity in his tone catching me off guard. My heart began to pound harder in my chest as my eyes widened in shock and disbelief.

"What's going on, Luca?" I asked, my voice catching in my throat. I tried to remain calm, but it was becoming difficult with Luca's serious attitude. What had happened? And why was he calling me Kennedy?

I felt a wave of fear wash over me as I realized that Luca had discovered my deception. I knew it was only a matter of time before he found out, but it was still shocking to be confronted with it so abruptly.

I stopped and tried to stay calm as I thought about what to do next. "What are you talking about, Luca?" I asked, trying to maintain a confused expression.

"Who are you really?" Luca demanded, his voice serious and cold.

"The resume under the name Errol Shin does not exist," Luca said, his voice still serious and cold. I felt like my blood froze in my veins.\.

I had to think fast. I knew I couldn't just admit to my deception, so I had to come up with an excuse. I quickly racked my brain for ideas, but my mind went blank”how could errol shin does not exist”

I was at a loss and didn't know what to do.

I felt my blood run cold as Leslei ran towards me and Luca said, "Would you mind explaining yourself, Leslei?"

Leslei smiled confidently and took a seat like a queen on a throne. "I guess it couldn't be helped" she replied, looking at me and flashing a smug expression.

I felt a sense of dread wash over me as I realized that Luca clearly suspected that I was involved in this deception somehow, and Lesley seemed unfazed and unashamed. I felt like I was in the middle of a game where everyone but me knew the rules.

"As the supervisor, aren't you the one in charge of taking care of applicants?" Luca asked Lesley, firing off a question.

Lesley maintained a confident attitude and replied shortly, "Errol Shin does not exist."

Luca's face grew colder as she explained, "The resume in your hands right now is completely fake. I was the one who made it."

"What do you mean, 'Errol Shin doesn't exist?'" I questioned with a mix of confusion and frustration.

"after I realized that you had been fired after helping a child from the convenience store, I thought it was a harsh punishment for such a good deed. So, I decided to wait for you at the bus station, hoping that you'd see me there. And I was right."

"I left the umbrella for you on purpose, hoping you would find this café to return the umbrella, and surprisingly you actually did, just as I expected. But before you even reached here at the café, I had already made a fake resume under the name Errol Shin and in position as a barista, and told Luca you will be here."

I was shocked to hear that Lesley had already planned everything out and had even gone as far as making a fake resume for me and telling Luca about it. I felt overwhelmed and didn't know what to think. Why hadn't she told me about all this before?

I felt a sudden rush of understanding wash over me. That explains to me why she doesn’t look surprised when she saw me as if alrady expecting me

"I'd orchestrated everything in our lives so that I could give you the job you deserved, Kennedy." Lesley said with a knowing smile.

I was taken aback by this revelation. Leslie had planned each and every single event throughout our lives to ensure that I would get the job I deserved. I was speechless, but deeply touched by her dedication and her desire to see me succeed. ILesley had orchestrated the entire situation so that I would get the job at the cafe.?......

I was taken aback by her admission, and didn't quite know how to respond. On one hand, I was grateful for her act of kindness, but on the other, I felt a bit deceived and manipulated.

Luca smiled, caught off guard by Lesley's actions. "I didn't expect that from you, Lesley," he said.

"I guess you don't know people as much as you think you do."

The tension was high, but the mutual understanding seemed to have softened the atmosphere. Luca and Lesley both respected each other's intentions, and although the situation was unusual, they didn't make it difficult.

"But Lesley...." I whispered in disbelief.

"I'm sorry, I acted without consulting you, and I didn't expect you'd go with the flow. Manipulating you and Luca wasn't my intention, even though my actions are telling you otherwise."

"But I want you to be honest with us, Kennedy.”Lesley galred at me” You stole the money from the cash register, don't you?"

My blood drained from my body as I took a step back defensively."What do you mean?"

"You came here yesterday afternoon, didn't you? And only you and Lesley have access to the cash register." luca waved a receipt in front of me. It indicated that the cash register was short in a huge amount of cash and my name was indicated as the one who had operated it. To open the cash register

"You're the primary suspect, Kennedy,"
