Chapter 17:

phonecall

Coffee, sugar and love

I found myself sleeping under a tree, exhausted from the events of the day. "I wonder where Radia went?" I mumbled to myself, half-awake. I reached into my pocket and realized I still had my phone with me. My eyes widened as I checked the time and saw that it was already late

I scrolled down my contacts and realized I had the café's telephone number with me.

"I don't know if it's actually a good plan or not, but I..." I thought to myself as I dialed the number. "Hello?" I said as the phone picked up the other line.

"Errol?" A voice asked. I hesitated, unsure of what to say.

"No," I said, my heart racing. "It's me, Daida."

The other line went silent for a moment, and then the girl spoke again. "Radia?" she asked, her voice filled with surprise.

"Is it really you, Daida?" I asked. My heart beat quickly, full of surprise. "I'm so happy!" I blurted out, unable to believe it was actually Daida on the line.

"Errol? Are you okay?" Daida asked. "Did Radia go back to the cafe? I just want to make sure if she's okay," I responded. Daida was so concerned and I was touched by her empathy.

"What happened?" Daida asked next. I was not prepared for this question and I hesitated for a moment before answering.

I didn't want Daida to worry by letting her know I was not with Radia, so I remained silent and didn't say anything.

"Can I talk to you, Daida?" I asked, wanting to tell her what had happened.

"Where are you, Errol?" Daida replied, her voice filled with concern. I didn't know how to answer her question. I didn't want to tell her the truth and put her in a difficult situation, but I also didn't want to lie. I remained silent, unsure how to proceed.

I was sitting at the park, feeling overwhelmed and alone. It was so quiet and there were no other people to be seen. I had no choice but to trust Daida, and I wanted to know what was going on at the cafe. I also needed to get in touch with the police to clear my name.

As I sat down on the swing, I felt the sun's warm rays touch my skin. The morning air was cool and refreshing, and I took a moment to absorb the calmness of the moment. My thoughts turned to the cafe and I wondered what Daida was doing at this time.

I waited and it felt like hours had passed. Suddenly, I saw Daida approaching, wearing a dress and carrying a sling bag. With her glasses on,, Daida spotted me sitting at the park and immediately ran up to me, calling out my name.

"Errol?"  I immediately stood up, brushing off the dirt from my shirt. Her gaze met mine, and I felt my heart begin to race. I didn't know what to say or how to react to seeing her. Everything was so unexpected, and I was feeling overwhelmed.

She approached me quickly and wrapped her arms around me in a warm hug, startling me. It was the last thing I expected her to do, and I was shocked by her behavior.

I gently hugged her back and said, "I'm sorry, Daida." I had so many questions, but I was too overwhelmed to ask them right away. I couldn't believe that she was acting as if nothing had happened. My suspicions about her grew but I decided to stay quiet and observe the situation carefully.

"about ra

"Forget about Radia," Daida said, wrapping her arms around my shoulder. "Let's go out on a date," she said. I was surprised by her suggestion and wasn't sure it was a good idea.

"Date?" I asked, a little hesitant. But Daida didn't respond and immediately called out a taxi. I couldn't help but feel suspicious of her actions.

"Ah, Daida, I don't think I should go to - " I hesitated, but Daida had already gotten into the taxi and it drove away.

I walked into the shoe section and spotted a beautiful pair of sandals that would match the dress Daida was wearing.

I walked over to Daida and placed the shoes on her feet. "Just as I thought," I said confidently as I slid the shoes onto her feet. They fit perfectly, and it was an amazing feeling. Daida was also thrilled with how the shoes looked and fit on her feet. I could tell that we had picked the perfect dress and shoes for her. It was definitely worth the effort.

As we finished shopping, Daida seemed unsure of what to do next. "Let's get something to eat first," I suggested, and we stopped by an ice cream shop. "What do you want, Daida?" I asked. She looked over the menu, and then said, "Vanilla and strawberry parfait"

I smiled as she handed over the menu to the waitress. "I'll take the same as her," I said, and the waitress nodded and walked away. Daida and I sat down and waited for our orders, and I was pleased to see that she seemed more relaxed now.

Our order came and Daida began to eat the ice cream quickly and enthusiastically. I quietly watched her, remembering how Radia had behaved in the same situation.

"Tastes good!" Daida said, licking the ice cream.

"It's just that you remind me so much of Radia," I said, my voice soft and sad. It was hard to forget the events of the night before, and I couldn't help but feel a little sad.

"What is it? I'm just excited to be eating ice cream," Daida asked, looking up at me with her innocent smile.

"Are you sure you want ice cream for breakfast?" I laughed.

"Yup," Daida replied, glancing outside. "Whoa, a teddy bear!" she cried, pointing through the window. "I want one!" she exclaimed.

"Alright," I said, following her as she ran towards the door. We soon found ourselves in a store full of stuffed animals and Daida's face lit up with excitement. She was like a kid in a candy store! We soon found the perfect teddy bear for Daida, and she couldn't stop smiling. I was happy to make her happy.

I secretly glanced at Daida as we walked outside the mall and I thought to myself, "Daida is so much like Radia...if it wasn't for her short hair, I would think it was Radia who was with me."

As we got into the taxi and returned to the park, I continued to observe and study Daida, trying to figure out what was going on with her.

"Let's go out for a walk, Errol," Daida said. I nodded and we began walking, with Daida clinging her arms around my shoulder. She was holding the medium-sized teddy bear she had purchased earlier, and she looked at me with her wide eyes and smiled.

"This is the first i got from you isnt it?," she said, and I stopped in my tracks. Something was wrong. The music box I had given her before had been her first gift. What was going on here?

"But, Daida...isn't the music box\??"
