Chapter 16:

Seeking the truth

The broken bond

Rehan took a step back when he sensed Arna discomfort radiating from her. He respectfully draw back  himself to give her some space. "Arna is everything alright," he asked worriedly. " I need to get back home,". She quickly shut the book and made her way to the exist. Rehan  reached out to grab to hold her hand. But Arna left him behind shocked and bewildered.

As she darted through the dense forest, her breath came in ragged gasps, each footfall thudding against the forest floor. Tendrils of hair escaped their bindings, whipped by the wind as she pushed forward, her heart pounding in her chest like a trapped bird. Confusion clouded her mind, swirling like mist in the undergrowth, obscuring her thoughts and leaving her grasping for clarity. With each step, she sought answers, driven by an urgent need to unravel the mysteries that haunted her.

Arna finally arrived at her home. "Dad, Dad where are you ?"   witha frantic urgency. She  scoured every nook and cranny of the house. Rooms echoed with their hurried footsteps, drawers were pulled open, and closets were flung wide in their desperate search. Finally, as she  burst into the study, her breaths ragged she  found Nino  immersed in his own world amidst the shelves of books and papers.

Arna sudden outburst " DAD," startled, the Nino sitting amidst the clutter of books and papers looked up, their expression a mixture of surprise and confusion as they tried to comprehend the abrupt interruption. "What's wrong?" he questioned, their voice tinged with concern, as he  struggled to make sense of the unexpected outburst.  "How did my parents died ? " she questioned him.

Nino's demeanor shifted abruptly as the question pierced the air, his expression hardening with a mixture of defiance and suspicion. "You know perfectly well how our parents died?" he retorted sharply, his voice tinged with a hint of anger. "They're gone, and nothing will change that. So why don't we focus on the present instead of dwelling on the past?" His words hung in the air, heavy with unspoken grief and a stubborn resolve to keep the past at bay. His refusal to answer was not just a matter of secrecy; it was a defense mechanism, a shield to protect himself from the painful memories that threatened to resurface with each probing question.

" Dad I went to Ethos City today. I found a book where it records new spells and death by spirits. I saw my parents died due to the spirits. I always thought the royals killed them. The book would never make a mistake. Please just tell me dad. " with tearful eyes Arna pleaded to Nino. Nino signed with defeat. He didn't want his beloved daughter to sobbed over something she had no power over.
