Chapter 107:
En Passant Grandmaster
Iori glared and managed to free herself from Phantom's grasp. She then noticed that the game between Carol and Jekyll had begun. "Hope Carol watched enough videos on how to dominate in chess," she thought.
Carol nervously opened by moving her knight to f3 as Jekyll moved his pawn to d5. "Just gotta remember that move from the video," she thought as she moved her pawn to e4.
"Craw! A free pawn for me, and a hung piece for thee. Nevermore, NEVERMORE!" Jekyll cawed as he captured the pawn at e4 with his d-pawn.
"Now it goes here," Carol thought as she moved her knight to g5.
Jekyll immediately moved his knight to f6 while Carol moved her pawn to d3. She truly was betting everything on this move, however, that was a big mistake. Her plan completely hinged upon the capture of her pawn at d3, however if Jekyll didn't capture, she was screwed.
Jekyll was an experienced 2101 rated chess, however he determined it was best to capture the pawn at d3 with his e-pawn.
Carol began to get excited as she captured said pawn with her bishop, but there was still a chance her plan could fall apart.
"Thou have a pinned bishop and a soon to be a lost knight. You shan't win this fight," Jekyll cawed as he moved his pawn to h6.
"YO! WE CLEAR FOR AMERICAN DESTRUCTION!" Carol enthusiastically shouted as she enthusiastically captured the pawn at f7 with her knight.
"A master need not castle to win against an imbecile," Jekyll cawed as he captured the knight at f7 with his king
"It's time for some red, white, and BOOM! Check!" Carol shouted as she moved her bishop to g6.
"Another piece for me? One less for thee," Jekyll glared as he promptly captured said bishop with his king.
"ICBM INCOMING! GET FUCKED MOTHERFUCKER!" Carol shouted as she captured the queen at d8 with her queen, sending the piece flying into Jekyll's horrified face.
"NO! NO! THE TENNISON! Damn thee, CRAW!" Jekyll cawed as he frantically moved his knight to c6.
"Too bad, sucka, I saw a video on how to win from here, check," Carol snickered as she moved her queen to d5, forcing Jekyll's king to f7.
She then castled on the king;s side while Jekyll tried to recover and moved his knight to b4. However, Carol simply moved her queen to b3, prompting Jekyll to defend his king by moving his bishop to e6, allowing Carol to capture his knight on b4 with no issue on her next turn. Jekyll tried to go on the offensive by moving his knight to d5, but Carol simply captured the pawn at b7 with her queen, putting him in an even worse position.
Jekyll quickly moved his rook to d8 while Carol moved her pawn to c4, causing Jekyll to panic and move his knight to f4. "OH NO-"
"Too late, bitch!" Carol snickered as she capitalized on the blunder and captured the knight at f4 with her bishop.
Now Jekyll was in a frenzied stated and stopped thinking rationally as he moved his pawn to g5. Carol simply captured the pawn at c7 with her bishop leaving Jekyll with no choice but to move his rook to d7. However, that pin ended in failure as Carol simply moved her queen to f3, forcing Jekyll's king to g8. She then moved her queen to e4 as Jekyll moved his bishop to g7. Carol didn't see the threat to her rook nor care as she captured the bishop at e6 with her queen, forcing Jekyll's king to h7. She continued her attack by moving her queen to f5 and forcing Jekyll's king to g8. This allowed her to capture the rook at d7 with her queen with no issue.
"CRAW! YOUR ROOK IS HUNG! CHECKMATE TO THEE!" Jekyll maniacally cawed as he captured the pawn at b2 with his bishop.
"Oh fuck! ...Anyway," Carol snickered as she captured the pawn at e7 with her queen.
"D- DID I NOT SAY CHECKMATE TO THEE!? WHY AREN'T THOU BLUNDERING!?" Jekyll shuddered as he began sweating buckets while capturing the rook at a1 with his bishop.
"Uh, cuz even I can mate ya," Carol shrugged as she moved her rook to d1.
"NAY! YOUR MATE IS SPOILED!" Jekyll cried as he made one last ditch attempt to save himself by moving his rook to d8.
"Ya think I'm stupid? Checkmate," Carol snickered as she gave Jekyll the middle finger and slammed her rook down on d8, winning the game.
Immediately, the board vanished and Jekyll began charging madly towards the Thames.
"NAY, NAY! I CAN'T SWIM! NEVERMORE! NEVERMORE!" Jekyll frantically cawed as he leapt into the river and began splashing around madly before drowning to death.
His DESPER that had fallen on the ground let out a puff of smoke as Iori watched the ordeal.
"One down, and you're next," Iori snickered as Phantom glared at her.
"Dr. Hyde can still win, and I have faith- NO! The oni-tiger has felled Baskerville... Very well, I shall entertain a match with you," Phantom glared as he pulled out his DESPER and summoned a chessboard.
