Chapter 149:
En Passant Grandmaster
"Welcome back! I'm Kisha Shinbum and today ole Mario's back for a birthday special! Er, whose birthday we celebrating?"
"Mimoko's since today is July 23rd in real life."
"Oh, good, good... So where's Mimoko?"
"Celebrating with her family. But it is worth mentioning that her birthday actually does take place before Chapter 1 of the story."
"Uh, Chapter what?"
"Sorry, I'll ease up on the 4th wall breaking. But today I felt I'd talk about birthdays. It turns out, many characters in the series share their birthdays with famous chess players. Most were intentional like Mimoko sharing her birthday with Judit Polgár, but there were also many that were unintentional and that I found out about only later. So today, I decided to share all the chess birthdays in the series thus far, starting with..."
Intentional birthdays:
These are characters who I intentionally had share their birthdays with famous chess players.
Mimoko- Judit Polgár
Okisato- Adolf Anderssen
Yuusuke- Wilhelm Steinitz
Utami- Nona Gaprindashvili
Peter- Paul Morphy
Gyro- Gunnar Gundersen
Hagemi- Koneru Humpy
Svetlana- Aleksandra Goryachkin
Daria- Hou Yifan
Ichimitsu- Magnus Carlsen
Safumi- Kateryna Lagno
Skaberghast- Mikhail Tal
Xiu- Ju Wenjun
Ian- Garry Kasperov
Wiley- Bobby Fischer
These next ones were also intentional but the people they were based off weren't career chess players, though did play chess from time to time:
Grigori- Ivan the terrible
Manny- Napoleon Bonaparte
Maida- Albert Einstein
Unintentional birthdays:
These are the characters who I didn't intend to have share their birthdays with any famous chess player, and ended up doing so by sheer coincidence.
Zanni- Borris Spasky
Ai- Faustino Oro
Carol- Levon Aronian
Prussian Tony- Fabiano Caruana
There's probably many others and likely to be more to come, but those were the ones I just so happened to find out about.
"Guess that means we might be doing more interviews like this. Welp, that's all for now."
