Chapter 148:
En Passant Grandmaster
"Alright, we got something special for ya. Since it's international chess day, I'm gonna be playing ole Mario in a game of chess."
"Sounds good. Since I play as white, I guess I'll start by going to c4."
"Never seen that one, but guess what, I heard this Caro-Kann's unbeatable, so guess you're losing," Kisha smirked as she moved her pawn to c6.
"Not bad, then knight to f3 for me."
"Well I'll go d5.
"G3."
"Really? Cuz now I can just move my bishop to g4 with no care in the world."
"Then I'll just move my knight to e5."
"Well my bishop's going to f5."
"In that case, queen b3. Care for a trade?"
"Well I heard you're not supposed to thruway pieces... Unless you're winning which I am," Kisha grinned as she moved her queen to b6."
"Then a trade it shall be. I'll just capture the pawn at d5 with my c-pawn."
"Take it, I don't care," Kisha shrugged as she captured the queen at b3 with her queen.
"Then I'll capture that queen at b3 with my a-pawn."
"And I just thought of something brilliant, bishop e4."
"Hmm, now that's an interesting move, but I think I'll just capture the pawn at c6 with my d-pawn."
"You say you were 1100 elo? More like 110!" Kisha snickered as she captured the rook at h1 with her bishop."
"Now that's funny. A 2800-level grandmaster made that same exact move just recently in a tournament."
"Guess that means I'm GM level."
"No, it just means you blundered like one. Because if I just capture the pawn at a7 with my rook-"
"You lose another rook," Kisha scoffed as she captured the rook at a7 with her rook.
"And I just push the pawn to c7."
"Threatening my knight? Uh, I can just move it to a6."
"And I can just move my pawn to c8 and promote it to a rook. Do you know what this is?"
"A-"
"Checkmate."
Kisha stared dumbfounded at the board as she realized the knight at e5 cut off her kings escape, and since she couldn't block or capture the newly promoted rook, she had lost.
"Bullshit! Why'd you promote to a rook instead of a queen!?"
"Because a rook was all I needed. And I thought you liked rooks considering how gung-ho you were about capturing them."
Kisha went red with embarrassment. "Alright! Interview's over! Get out! Get lost! I'm done!"
