Chapter 181:
En Passant Grandmaster
As Cinnamon headed for the board, Yumi began babbling and attempting to walk over to it too.
"Wah, Yumi-chan, you're still too young," the platinum-haired woman cried as she scooped up Yumi.
"No need to fear, she won't be able to put the pieces in her mouth if she plays," Raymond stated.
"So you're saying she could play too? Look I know ya said anyone could play, but she's not even 1 year old yet!" Rika grumbled.
Yumi began to cry, prompting Cinnamon to approach the platinum-haired woman. "Hey Miss Mimi, let Yumi go first! I'm a good girl, so I can wait."
Mimi looked at Rika, who reluctantly nodded. Mimi let out a sigh and placed Yumi atop the table where the board was.
Iori meanwhile blinked in confusion. "Wait, you're having me play a baby? Damn, this shit's live too, so I'm gonna wreck her on air. Guess to avoid getting too much hate, I'll suspend the batsu for the loser. I mean, I'm already 1 game up anyway, so when I win this one, I'll make the match against Derpy the all-or-nothing deciding match. Now lets see how many illegal moves this baby makes!"
Yumi babbled and smacked the pieces, attempting to chew on them, but unable to, since they'd phase out of existence before making contact with her mouth. However, she then stared at the board and managed to move her pawn to e4.
"Well babies ARE too young to play chess, but hey she wants to play and made a legal move, so NO MERCY!" Iori shouted as she moved her pawn to e5.
Yumi stared at the board before grabbing the knight and crawling to place it on c3.
"Wow, this shit could trend for being so cute, until ya start crying when I reck ya!" Iori taunted as she moved her knight to f6.
Yumi began babbling again and slapping her hands on her knees before grabbing the bishop and moving it to c4.
"A Vienna Game: Falkbeer, Stanley variation at her age? Not bad," Raymond nodded.
"Guess it really is cute and wholesome. PSYCH! You're gonna cry cuz here comes Frankenstein and Dracula to suck your blood!" Iori snickered as she captured the pawn on e4 with her knight.
Yumi began to start sniffling before crawling over and smacking her queen down on h5.
"Yeah, think crawling on the board's illegal, so could ya move?"
As soon as Yumi moved, Iori grinned and slammed her king down on e7. "BOO! WE GOT A BOO-CLOUD GHOST IN DA HOUSE TOO! HOW YA LIKE THAT!?"
The shouting appeared to frighten Yumi a bit as she began to cry a bit.
"Oi, making my kids cry intentionally is a cardinal sin here," Rika glared.
"Hey she's the one that wanted to play with the big kids, so this is what she gets."
A few seconds later, Yumi calmed down and grabbed the queen before crawling over the board again.
"HEY! No crawling on the board! And where are you taking that- No... NO! YOU'RE A FUCKING BABY! THERE'S NO WAY!"
"Babu [Checkmate]!" Yumi smiled as she captured the pawn at e5 with her queen, winning the game.
Iori went pale with shock and turned to see everyone glaring at her.
"You had that coming," Mimoko glared.
"Making a baby cry? Wow, you're really racing for the lowest of the low," Yuusuke glared.
"Hey the baby won! I'm the one that should be crying!" Iori fumed.
"Yay! I wanna play! I wanna play! I was good and let Yumi go first, so can I?" Cinnamon smiled.
"Oh, you wanna a shot? Well gloves are off kid, I ain't fucking around. Bet still stands! Loser of this match eats something nasty so let's get on with it!"
But before the match could begin, a loud rumble echoed throughout the room. Turns out everyone was starving and wanted to eat.
"Oh come on! Save the food for later!" Iori whined.
"No need to fear, I'll supervise the match. Rika, I request you along with your daughter stay too, as I'd like you to register her with the WWCF, in fact register all you children along with the staff."
"Wait, you want to register her? But she's not even 1 yet!"
"I said it before, didn't I? Anyone can play chess, and even though she is yet to turn 1, she knew how to play. That is the mark of a prodigy if I'd ever seen one, and I am making it my mission to ensure no prodigy gets snuffed out."
"Wait, so if she wasn't registered, then I won't lose elo, right?" Iori asked.
"Since those that have yet to be rated could be above your level, we generally don't award or subtract elo in those instances. Though any matches she played against WWCF members before she registered will be factored into her rating and appear in her game's database, so that includes her game against you."
"Great, I became elo fodder for a fucking baby."
"Now since she is not yet an adult, or likely to be able to fill out all the information on her own, she will need parental assistance during the registration."
Rika sighed and decided to oblige. Once Yumi was registered, an icon appeared in her badges.
"I knew she had talent. That there is Caïssa's blessing," Raymond stated.
"What's that?" Rika asked.
"Caïssa's blessing affirms you have the blessing of the goddess of chess, meaning you won't die from unnatural causes outside a chess match nor will you suffer life-threatening injuries that prevent you from playing chess ever again. The big exception though is if you lose in a DESPER match. That's essentially the only way to kill a good chess player before they die of old age."
"Well talk about a good health insurance plan. Heh, I'm glad," Rika smiled as she held up Yumi.
Yumi smiled and babbled as she gazed down at Rika. All the while, Cinnamon nervously stood waiting. "Hey momma, can ya register me so I can play?"
"Yeah, I'm getting bored just waiting around," Iori grumbled.
"Sure thing, Cinnamon," Rika smiled as she shot Iori a nasty glare.
