Chapter 191:
En Passant Grandmaster
"Alright, this time I'm gonna win," Nina declared as she opened with knight f3.
Johan simply nodded and moved his pawn to d5. Nina mirrored him by moving her pawn to d4, and Johan decided to mirror her by moving his knight to f6. Then Nina moved her bishop to f4, prompting Johan to move his pawn to c5. After Nina moved her pawn to e3 though, Johan began applauding her. "Well done. I'm surprised you know of the London system," he said as he moved his knight to c6.
"The London what?" Nina asked as she moved her pawn to c3.
"The formation you're doing. It's called a London system," Johan explained as he moved his queen to b6.
"Uh, is it good?" Nina nervously asked as she moved her queen to b3.
"It's one of the best openings out there," Johan stated as he moved his pawn to c4.
"Oh, then I'm gonna win then," Nina smiled as she moved her queen to a3, unknowingly blundering away the game.
"Well, she is still learning," Johan thought as he moved his pawn to e5.
"HAH! Now I can finally put you in checkmate!" Nina declared as she captured the bishop at f8 with her queen.
"Sorry to say, but that's just a normal check, and your queen's gone," Johan stated as he captured said queen with his rook.
Nina's confidence immediately deflated as she began to tear up. "Oh come on! Go easy on me!" she pouted as she captured the pawn at e5 with her d-pawn.
"Sorry, but failure is the greatest teacher in cases like this," Johan sighed as he captured the pawn at b2 with his queen.
At this point, Nina had pretty much forgone strategy and moved her knight to d2, allowing Johan to capture the rook at a1 with his queen. Nina desperately moved her knight back to b1, but Johan simply swept it up with his queen, prompting Nina to move her king to d2.
"If you're trying to attack my queen with your king, it won't work. Check," Johan stated as he moved his knight to e4, forcing Nina's king to e2.
"This isn't fun," Nina pouted as Johan captured the pawn at c3 with his knight, forcing her king to d2.
"Perhaps I went a bit overboard. Sorry, I only remember how to play competitively," Johan nervously smiled as he moved his queen to b2.
"Well ease up, or I'll never play chess with you again," Nina huffed as she moved her king to e1.
"Alright. Checkmate. I'll be sure to praise you and go easy on you from now on," Johan smiled as he moved his queen to c1 and began patting Nina's head.
"You better," Nina blushed.
...
Mimoko blinked as the broadcast of the game ended. "Well that was a weird reality show. Though it was still impressive that she was able to do a London system despite this only being her second ever chess game," she thought.
