Chapter 3:
Tsurihito's Bride
"For the next practical, we are going on a trip to Fujigawa, the village near the south of Tokyo. The trip is going to be after three days, so make sure to make full preparations for the trip. We are going there for three days and two nights. That's all.", our professor, Mr. Takumi announced this exciting event in the same, lifeless manner as he does, not having an ounce of motivation in his voice. It kind of made the trip sound boring.
But logically speaking, Fujigawa is not a bad place to visit to study marine biology. It is close to the sea and the depth of that area of the sea is deep enough to explore diversity. The lack of small islands in that area is a downside though. I won't be able to explore them.
One of the best experiences in studying marine biology is exploring the otherwise restricted areas. This has somewhat became a hobby for me. But Airi-chan seems to hate it for some reason. I am grateful that she still— despite her hatred— tags along with me in my exploration.
She sat right beside me, to the desk on my left. I glanced at her grey eyes, trying to read her thoughts. That wasn't the hard part, but the expression she was giving was confusing.
"Why are you beaming?" I asked. I have never seen her this happy to go on a trip.
She gave me a stare in confusion. I looked around. Somehow all of my classmates were looking at me too. "What happened?"
"We are going to fujigawa." Teiji, my friend replied.
"Yes?"
"Its your hometown, did you forget this too?"
Oh right... I almost forgot thats what my hometown was called. I don't know why, for some days, I feel like I am forgetting the memories of my past. They have all become blurry.
"Are you okay?" Teiji enquired in concern.
"I am okay, don't worry. Its just that I am having a hard time remembering some stuffs. That's all." I looked at him. The concern in his brown eyes is yet to be removed. "I am okay! Trust me!"
He blankly looked at Airi-chan, before shaking his head and looking at me. "Take better care of your health. Make sure you are eating well... and tell your Airi-chan to take care of you too."
"Yes I will.", she ensured. Her voice was stronger than usual. But Teiji acted like he didn't hear a word. I don't know why my classmates is acting this way. Maybe they are weirded out by the fact that we are living together?
Now that I think about it, for someone from the outside, it really does feel a bit weird. But Airi-chan is a nice girl. She takes care of me, feeds me, and everything she feels like she needs to do to make me happy. I don't know how I can express this feeling.
"That will be twenty dollars."
"I will use my meal swipe.", the food server of our canteen gave us our lunch. Airi-chan was standing right beside me. "Aren't you going to order?"
"I am not feeling hungry right now. You can eat by yourself, I will tag along."
It was concerning. "You will get skinny if you don't eat properly."
Her colourless eyes gave off more colours— the colours of emotions— than any eyes I have ever seen. She giggled. "Thank you. But I really am not hungry."
"Okay..." I looked around the cafeteria for a seat. My friends, Teiji included were all sitting on the left side. There were empty spaces.
"Do you mind if I sit here?", I asked them.
"You think? Sit down and join in!"
"Thanks." I looked at Airi-chan. She was still standing. "You can sit too."
She gave off an eerie smile. "I don't think they would like it."
My classmates were looking at me and her, as if they were enraged. Did Airi-chan do something? I couldn't remember. Airi-chan isn't someone who would do something to make her hated, I am sure of it.
"Do you guys mind if she sat down with us?"
They all looked at each other, their thoughts scattered.
"No." Teiji said with a sigh. "Do whatever you like."
"Thanks." They again returned to their daily talks.
I continued to eat my lunch while Airi-chan watched me eat. She was looking at me keenly, studying every thing I do. It was a bit embarrassing.
"How long are you going to keep this up?", Teiji whispered into my ear.
"What do you mean?"
"For how long are you going to chase after her??", he clarified. He surely was in a bad mood.
"Airi-chan?"
"Yes!" My friends went silent. Teiji was the only one who was talking.
"What did she ever do to you? Why are you mad?"
"She didn't do anything to us! But look at what she has done to you!!"
