After their hometown, Callineth, is destroyed without warning, Warui and his two childhood friends, Chena and River, are left stranded across the border with nothing but each other. Desperate for food, shelter, and a future, they join a military training program.

Years later, a dispute over one soldier threatens to turn the country's own institutions against each other. A military operation that should have ended when the fighting stopped instead becomes the beginning of a crisis spreading far beyond the battlefield as it introduces unknown enemies moving within the country itself.

Caught between institutions that no longer agree who the enemy is, Warui, Chena, and River must decide what loyalty means when serving the country that gave them a future and protecting the people beside them are no longer the same thing.
