The story is narrated by Yami the main female protagonist. She was forced to move to Takayama from tokyo, after the passing of her mother. She lives with her father who is always working and her baby brother. Her mother died in a house fire caused by Yami. Yami is age 16, her brother kai age 12, and her father age 36. She now attends Itten high school, where she meets Akemi. Yami is a very shy girl after everything that happened, but Akemi makes her open up to him. Akemi is a somewhat popular guy but isn’t the talk to the town. He makes Yami feel heard and seen for more than just the girl from tokyo. Yamis brother and father blame her for what happened to her mother, but Akemi didn’t. Akemi had a lot of secrets about his family he would soon reveal to Yami. Yami couldn’t shake the guilt with the story ending in a chase between her and Akemi, ending with Yami taking her own life. With Akemi following her soon after.
