Well, it had something to do with my former start of my novel, which I threw out of the window as I found a better way to start the novel.^^
To keep it short: Luz is a mage apprentice who used a spell well above his league, without having the mana reserves for it. (As one can imagine, teleportation spells aren't meant for mage apprentices)
To keep it not short:
Luz and all of his siblings, except for Gab were new mage apprentices who awoke a few weeks ago. The village was originally created due to a group of former mages who sided with the wrong prince lost during the throne fight. The ones participating got executed, but their family members on the other hand got forced into the middle of nowhere.
Centuries passed and unfortunately everything related to magic knowledge also decayed. The only one visiting the village was the tax collector and when the group showed them the scales of a dragon, he gifted the village enough pills to awake the magic talent of everyone under 20. (Gab and a few others wer unlucky and still remained a mortal even after awakening.)
The element of ones magic talent is always the easiest one to learn. (20% easier then the others) But unfortunately for Luke, there were no books meant for beginner space magic. None survived against time. But a space magic book for intermediate mages survived. (Like every other book, it repeated with the basics before getting more and more complex. Luke derived two magic spells from it after studying the book for weeks.
