It's a risky gamble. For ones who don't have much free time to waste on something just to get disappointed later on, they'd rather know if it's worth reading early on. As for people who usually love reading and spend most of their time reading, they should love the feel of mystery, the excitement.
But for most, it's a hook and grabs. They generally decide to read the earliest chapter, so better go full-on.
The author says this is the prologue. But this doesn't seem like the prologue, rather it's half the exposition, put here to excite the readers about the waifu or something.
But for me who doesn't care about this waifu, the whole thing seems too confusing.
