As a world builder nerd that sounds very interesting. Especially with the idea of a sort of Tanya the Evil style magic world war going on.

A bit of a point of critique, which you point out here, the first six chapters of the story present a world that is normal and magic doesn't exist. Then it suddenly does, but it also is common knowledge and suddenly is everywhere, everyone knows about it and its in everything. These two settings are clashing with each other. If it was common knowledge and everywhere that should have been coming through in the world in the past chapters rather than feeling like the opposite.

I have to read more to get a taste of things with the world building, but it is feeling more supernatural at the moment.

I see I wasn't the only using magic tattoos in their story. This chapter definitely starting to open up on the mystery of the world giving a clearer picture of what sort of setting it is. Magic tech and experiments always a fun avenue to go down. Though not sure how much will be showing up in the story rather than just window dressing.
