Everyone's entitled to their view! My two cents is, the Egregore are here by around 25k words, and the Taboo that's the centerpiece of the story appears less than 10k words in. I think if you (royal) think of the story very liberally as having a beginning, middle, and end, this tracks loosely.
If I changed the synopsis to refer to either of them, would they have felt different? Maybe, but then we'd be judging a story on the merits of a blurb I wrote for flavor. All that being said, these things are always quite slippery anyway, and they depend on the genre and construction of each novel. I have my own issues with how things are arranged, but when I think about the outline and the overarching mystery and everything else, I'm actually quite uncertain how I would have changed anything. I'll think about it when it's over. :)
Ramblings aside, I appreciate your view! It's always really valuable.
