Ha, yeah. Not sure if "inherited" is the right word; it's explained a bit more later (though I do keep it a little vague).
While there was some thought into their names, they're not on-the-nose meanings like the sisters' names:
- Hiroto Kobayashi is "Hiroto" meaning big, large, generous, and fly, and was just as a generally nice, capable guy. Hikari gives him the nickname "Kobayasu", where the portmanteau'd on "yasu" means "calm", "peace", "level" as a reflection of his peacemaking and levelheaded nature (y'know... despite the chaos 😆).
- Ichiro's name is really from my other idea that I had first but didn't write, where "first son" actually has some significant meaning. Here, not so much. However, he and Agent Yamamoto are meant to be foils for one another (in a way that I won't totally spoil early here), and that is intended to be reflected in their last names, where they both come from "Yama", meaning mountain. Historically, mountains are generally associated with gods and the divine.
-The sisters' last name "Sato" is a common last name spelt with different kanji with a myriad of meanings, but there is a specific one I chose it for.

Hehehe, I may be playing stereotypes, but he's basically the most stereotypical big Canadian lumberjack that is only missing the flannel 😆
I did want to joke about people assuming he's American because white — I think one of those jokes made it in but I can't totally recall — because apparently that's kind of a thing in Japan and I wanted to poke fun at it.

And yeah, I probably could have described some things (environment) better, but I was focusing on trying to nail the character dynamic and ease into the less common magic system (since it's kind of important to understand 😅).
Happy that you liked that part of it 😊

(Funnily enough, it was actually either going to start with Ichiro waking up and getting ready for school, or just the walk to school, but I was having trouble with that, and just started writing the first scene as something to happen later, and it just worked as an opening (with slight tweaking), I think(?) 😆
I am a bit disappointed that I dropped the walk to school though, because that supposed to show the magic system in day-to-day life, with a construction crew using singing to raise beams, and one of them going haywire and almost hit someone (Ichiro or Hikari) and that would have been Kobayashi's intro as he quickly uses magic to save them. Alas, did not happen, but oh well, I'm happy with what I got.)

But yeah, it was fun to do the frienemies with the two boys; haven't really done a dynamic like that before 😆

...I only notice now that, I should have realized, Honeyfeed only has one font. The computer was in a different font (Times New Roman while the rest was Arial). Oh well.
Glad you liked the comedic side; I tried to keep it a bit light with the banter and teasing, and those poor lizardmen 😆 (since some aspects are a bit darker 😅)
