Yeah I do wonder if I should pad this moment out. Currently looking to save on words so I'll probably leave it off-screened. The main thing is that he's just sleeping so soundly that I felt it'd be kind of pointless to build up false tension for like a whole scene of them leaving when Merri as a concept and a character is far more exciting and something both I and the audience would want to get to sooner.

I won't say much about the future of the story, but there are 10 chapters of this arc left, so who knows how smooth it'll be...

Definitely feel the criticism of playing my cards too close, as you've identified I do like to establish one thing and then subvert or build on it with another, so I'll have to bear that in mind for any future introductions to avoid repeats of Sol/Luna not being the most exciting in their first few chapters. Glad this action worked so well! I love the Marrie and Clint stuff this chapter, her total resignation to throw herself into the flames is an interesting character beat for her that I think does recontextualise her interestingly. I also always love writing Clint facing death.

Konosuba is strangely enough a significant inspiration for this atypical party! Obviously Six Shooter isn't a comedy, but the dynamic of characters being at odds with their own given class was one I really wanted to pursue in this story.

I'm so glad there are Brann fans! I did worry he'd be a bit underwhelming to people but I'm glad you vibe with him so much. He's very much Clint's first and perhaps on some level only friend in this new world, so I'm happy you liked him.

The Slime Queen does change quite quickly, but that's sort of the point. She's (quite literally) very malleable, only just learning to be human, and the first lesson she learns as a human is the power of mercy and kindness. That's the sort of thing that if it becomes a foundation of who you are as a person, makes you drop plans of world domination pretty fast haha.

Luna came out of the Slime Queen in Chapter 10, it used her as a template to help shape its humanoid form and then she removed her. She was pretty clearly alive and uninjured by the process, just unconscious. Thus why Sol has no particular reaction beyond focusing on the goal of beating the Slime Queen as normal.
