A touching chapter. Reminds me of the end of Blade Runner when Gaff says ”It's too bad she won't live, but then again, who does?" referring to Rachael being a replicant.

I like that about your writing
I am glad that Mona did not run. That would have been a normal response for her. That is a testimony to how important Gina is to her. I am glad that they are still together, but confused on what that means. I feel more honest communication between them could have smoothed things out sooner. It is fascinating that Athena initiated what Gina and Mona should have done at the beginning.
The introduction of a third person into a group or relationship is almost always tricky. it changes the dynamics. I am scared where this is going and I am certain that there will be some broken hearts

I am sorry he had to find out this way. It was kind of obvious though. To be honest, she should not have hidden it from him. But, I am surprised he protected her. He seemed pretty angry when he found out.
Her involvement with Vanguard goes back before her university days.
You mentioned that before. I think it would be a cool idea for a story if you could pull it off. I think you are a good storyteller. Although the story would get very deep and philosophical. It reminds me of current ai. we know how to train an ai. but we have know idea how it learns or how it actually processes information. Once it is trained we are clueless. similar to we know basically how a human brain works, but do not know how it actually processes information. It is a cool idea if you are ever inspired again.
They do seem to let her go often. At the same time Mr. Black wants her to see things. So, whose game is she playing.
I know the story, but never played it 🙁
