I feel like this story would work well as a kind of camp stage play, especially this ending, with the metaphors becoming literal and the two of them doing that whole Red Riding Hood spiel. It's both creepy and a bit goofy/very absurd. Cool stuff

This chapter in particular reminded me of Jeff Vandermeer's Area X trilogy, with the heightened surreality and oppressive office drone life of the protag reminding me of Control, and obviously the scientists stepping out into this barred-off special hell zone being quite similar to Annihilation. I love the atmosphere all three of you created and managed to keep consistent, and the idea of this ultra passive character literally slowly fusing into his routine. Awesome stuff

Idk where you stopped reading, but I don't think I've edited that much, definitely not since the now second-to-last chapter, which was a few months ago at this point.😩 As for the question of whether or not it's alive, I'm not sure yet. The new one's just a bonus chapter for now. No promises
