I did!! I do think the loops had started to feel a bit repetitive before this chapter, and I wish the ending would have been elaborated on a bit (I would have loved to see Kuroko one last time now that the loop was broken, and how Tomoyo might try to set things right and start her new life), but all in all I really liked it. You almost had me crying in the damn library 😭

My first theory was that the three of them are the three murder victims who all got """"saved""" by these primordial fish deities, but I don't know how that would work timeframe wise with Rei being found and recruited by the shady dude. maybe the three bodies were actually Raika, Tomoyo and Kuroko, since she seems to be connected to the loop somehow despite no fish (as far as we know), and the murders were Rei's first attempt at killing T. I also wonder why the fish aspect seems to be much more integrated into her than the other two. Maybe she was a jelly trying to do something similar to anglerfish wrt learning about humans and got so good at it she became a facsimile of one, rather than grafting itself onto a human. ALSO what does Ringo know??

I'll say, in a way it's kind of a relief to know that Raika cared this much about Tomoyo too, since she seemed cold and like she was going along out of obligation before. Of course, it also makes the whole thing so freaking tragic

I feel like this story would work well as a kind of camp stage play, especially this ending, with the metaphors becoming literal and the two of them doing that whole Red Riding Hood spiel. It's both creepy and a bit goofy/very absurd. Cool stuff

This chapter in particular reminded me of Jeff Vandermeer's Area X trilogy, with the heightened surreality and oppressive office drone life of the protag reminding me of Control, and obviously the scientists stepping out into this barred-off special hell zone being quite similar to Annihilation. I love the atmosphere all three of you created and managed to keep consistent, and the idea of this ultra passive character literally slowly fusing into his routine. Awesome stuff
