The proverbial "gold" of this story that's in the "pot at the end of the rainbow" - is most definitely the comedy! I swear, the amount of endearing, supportive laughs that the dialogue and narration that this chapter especially have produced, are just wonderful to acknowledge! 😆💚🌈🍀

With that said - having spent a good portion of my life thus far first in the US Army, and then in the US Air Force (which I am pleased to say I've successfully put behind me) - I wanted to jump into the story, go right up to Mr. Owens, and tell him:

"Hey, 'Devil Dog', hey DI (Drill Instructor) - how about leaving the Corps behind? Really, it's ok - you can still celebrate Tunn Tavern and all that jazz on November 9th, but your students are not recruits, and this school isn't MCRD San Diego or MCRD Parris Island!"

And what can I say? If I was able to jump into the story and turn back time - I'd have made sure that I tutored Nora to such an extent, that she'd never have been in that predicament! 🤓

With that said, I'm continuing to love the deliberate pacing and the well-timed comedy in this story, which both lend themselves to character-building and world-building which are both really quite endearing! ❤️

That's how it is - take it from me.

It never is something that one is truly prepared for - those most extreme moments of brief excitement that end as quickly as they begin, leaving one little time to consider the feelings that these moments bring on. Because in that "business", all there is to do is go on the mission, run the AAR (After Action Report), and then go back to the comparatively dull day to day tasks that consume most of one's career.

And yet - the hardest part of it all, is learning to put it as far behind oneself as one can, and venture out on new endeavors in a society that's largely detached from that life.

I suppose what I'm trying to say is - that I very much appreciate the respect and care that you've put into this story, the characters, and the subject matter thus far. 🙏

Heck - this really does bring me back, back to the "old me". It was those brief, exhilarating (and terrifying) moments of excitement that came about when I was in that "business" - and then they were always over as quickly as they began, or at least they felt that way. 🙏

So a few things - and they are all positive! 🤍

I don't exactly know why - but there was a beautiful sense and element of "tragicomedy" that I experienced as the reader, when Rose was interacting with the (I found to be endearingly blunt and humorously named) "fraudster", and the eloquent, honest, and authentic narration and dialogue alike that illustrate how Rose felt about that entire interaction! 🤍

Additionally - I really like the grounded, eloquent conversational approach that you've included in this story, to the point that it compels the reader to pause and consider the questions that are asked in the story for themselves! 🤍

Finally, this story just feels refreshingly unique - and I'm looking forward to the next chapter! 🤍

Ok - I love this second chapter, like I really do! What I love about it, is now that you've set up in the first chapter, the elements to get the reader acquainted with the characters, the universe that the story, and the overall tones and/or tones therein! Since you've accomplished that as aforementioned - and successfully so, I might add - the second chapter is available to build upon this! ❤️

What I mean by that last part, is that the reader can now be further immersed in getting to know Melodette on a more personal level, which I love as a writing convention! On a personal note - Melodette's whimsical, authentic, well-paced monologue seriously reminds me of the one that Patrick Bateman (as played by Christian Bale) gives in "American Psycho" - and I mean that as a high compliment to you as a fellow writer! ❤️

Thank you! I'm really glad that you like it - and honestly, I just made this chapter shorter in order to simultaneously accommodate the word count for the competition, as well to really cement the main antagonists, as they were first introduced in the preceding chapter.

With that said, the next chapter at least, will be shorter like this as well, and possibly the following ones! While I prefer to have more depth and detail in my chapters - I also recognize how to work within page and word count constraints, as well as how to keep the pacing, character-building, and world-building moving along smoothly as well! 🙏

Also, I'm going to be writing the Princess Saotome prequel as soon as this is story is finished, so I hope that you enjoy that one as well! ❤️

This - well what can I say, this story resonates with me on a personal level, in a pretty significant and heavy manner. You see, after six long and very difficult, but ultimately rewarding years of service in the US Army - I transferred over to the US Air Force. Following that, I retired from the military, and I've largely put it all behind me in favor of pursuing a career in academia. I should mention that in the "business", we call such a branch transfer going from "Green to Blue". 💚💙

With that said, as I was reading this first chapter of your new story, I couldn't help but have to pause a few times and reflect - thinking about when I was in the Nuclear Weapons side of the Air Force with stealth bombers - as well as the more conventional side of the Air Force with fighter jets, I can still hear the sounds that they made taking off, the sounds of the flight line when the individual armaments that made up their respective payloads were being loaded onto and/or into such combat aircraft, and I still remember the great people that I met and bonded with. Even as I've tried my hardest to largely put that significant part of my life behind me - I now realize that it'll always be a part of my identity, a core part at that. 🤍
