Just thought I'd let you know that Sun and Zheng are actually the character's surnames and they are spoken before Liehuo and Fenghuang since that's how the Chinese structure their names.
For storytelling purposes, I had both Liehuo and Fenghuang display their unconventional abilities to show the reader a general idea of what their "Paths" are all about. Liehuo was more blatant with his showcasing, but Fenghuang did display her abilities as well, albeit more subtly. Character-wise, Liehuo actually enjoys showing what he can do and is also willing to explain what's happening when asked. The reason why is something for another time.
I think you made a good observation and point when you mentioned immaturity and inexperience being what made Shannon step up to the challenge. That actually fits, so thank you for pointing that out. When I was writing this chapter, all I was thinking of from Shannon's perspective was her personal stakes in that situation.
With her trial as a one-on-one duel with Liehuo about to happen, I won't make any comments on your first impression here. I'll wait until you see its conclusion and find out for myself if either of your predictions were correct or at least getting there.
And yes, I think Shannon would enjoy some time with Daiki and Miko for some videogames or social media fun. She's gonna be hungry for that kind of activity and she will have a lot to "Twit" about for sure after she goes through some things still yet to come. 😉
